Is it craze to buy the same knife twice? Spyderco Para Military D2

Late last night I received my Spyderco Para Military in CPM D2. I spent all night comparing how it carves and whittles to all my other knives. (Lone Wolf Ranger, Bladetec Rijbak, Buck 110,Emerson,Kershaw tyrade, small traditional whittler). Whittling has become my new hobby. See my d2 vs s30v post.
The D2 Para Military straight out of the box, cuts better, carves smoother and feels better in hand than any knife I own. I was very surprised because I spend a lot of time sharpening my knives. I love this knife. It seem prefect for what I am carving (small boats, ducks).
I believe the Para Military in D2 was a limited run. I am very tempted to buy a second Para Military in D2 before they are all gone in case I lose my first one.
I am craze to buy the same knife twice?
Is it true the Para Military D2 was a limited production?

Spyderco's web site lists the D2 Para as a "Sprint Run". In their language that means that a limited number are made and then there won't be any more of that variant.

"Limited Production" means that they will continue making small amounts of a model as the market and their manufacturing capabilities dictate.

If you like the knife that much buying a back-up to a sprint run is hardly crazy, not to mention I read recently they are starting to dry up.
If the funds are available I would even consider a 3rd or 4th.
But then again I've been called crazy!

I have 2 or 3 of quite a few of the knives I have.

So I hope your not crazy :D:thumbup:

Please don't buy up all the D2 Para-Millies... I really want one but I can't afford it right now... :(

I had a good friend in the military that carried two Spyderco Police, one on each pocket. He was ambidextrous and trained in bladed weapons, so he kept one for utility jobs and one completely razor sharp for self-defense, but had the ability to use both if he needed to.

I asked him why he had two of the exact same knife, and he said it was so he only had to know the feel and mechanics of one design...so having two of the same knife, depending on your situation, can make alot of sense.

You're not crazy, I just located and purchased 2 of the sprint run manix to go with the one I already have......That knife is just too good to ever be without, and if they don't make any more between now and when I die, now I will always have one lol (at least that is how I justify it).......probably another 15-20 years left in me...I hope...5-7 yrs per knife should be doable lmao.

I have a backup for ones I really like.

You need a third in the event the first is lost, so you'll still have a backup.

The fourth is a safe queen so you'll not hesitate to use the first three.

Five is a sign of mild obsession.

Six means you're nuts.

Logic is your friend:D. Regards, ss.

Buying another of the same knife means you're crazy (said the guy with seven Millies) ;)

When I find one that I like enough that I would want to replace it if I lost it, I start looking for a replacement before I lose it. I consider them pre-need replacements.

It seems perfectly reasonable to me. If there's a knife model I intend to carry, I buy two, one for using and one for the collection. A "sprint run" (never heard that term before) knife from Benchmade sounds like a very good candidate for long-term collectibility.

not crazy at all! i got two benchmade gravitators and dont use either along with the rest of my name brand crap and carry junk like rough riders and frost at work

I do exactly what Bob does. It never hurts to have a backup.

I bought 5 F/G Manix and still have 3, (two was traded one for a NIB large Persian, the other for a NIB ATS-34 Military) I also have the D-2 Para and the D-2 Military.(wish I'd bought more) You won't get hurt on these popular Spydercos, once they are gone they only get more desirable!

You are perfectly sane, way to think ahead. I havent losy many knives but I sleep better knowing I have backups fpr my favorites.

No , crazy is posting an " I'll take it ! " to your own for sale ad. ;)

**c'mon , ya'll know you have done it too....right ???? ok , back in the box for me...**
