Is it difficult to disassemble/reassemble a Manix 2?

I like to disassemble, clean, and lube my knives - CRK, Hinderer, etc. It's also easier to sharpen a knife on the Wicked Edge if you separate the blade from the rest of the knife. So I'd like to disassemble my Manix 2.

Peering into the knife and looking at the locking mechanism on the Manix 2, I see the potential for not getting Humpty Dumpty back together again. Is it tricky? I'm not terribly mechanically inclined.

If you're not particularly mechanically inclined, I would steer clear. It can be a bit tricky, but is totally doable.

Can you elaborate here? Again, I've taken apart a ZT 0550, CRK Umnum, Sebenza, and Hinderer XM's....no problem. What precisely is "tricky?" Anyone done a tutorial?

Sure, as eloquently as possible. The ball bearing that makes up the lock is held in by spring pressure and can and will shoot out if not careful. Dis-assembly isn't the hard part it's re-assembly. There was a video on YouTube that I watched to get an idea of what to do. Let me see if I can find that video for you.

P.S. The likes of CRK, ZT and Hinderer are childs play compared to the much more complex CBBL. They just have fewer parts to work with.

Edit: Here are two videos that show dis-assembly and re-assembly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyc9hvOFeEA and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7c_9vtjda3o

Hope this helps!

I don't have an M2 but do have an M2 XL. The latter is easy to put together (I assume they go together the same but can't say for sure). It's way easier than a back lock, for instance, because no part of it fights against you piecing it together.

I've done this a few times and the only tricky bit is getting the lanyard pipe to fit tightly to the scales again. The rest is fairly intuitive. Remember, there are no screws at the back end of the handle to keep the scales from being loose. You may have to expand the ends of the pipe to get it to stay firm.

One more thing to add to the great info above. The cage for the ball lock will fit two ways, but only works when installed one way. You'll find that out when you do it wrong and can't release the lock :-)

Just be careful putting the pieces back and you'll be fine. I agree that the XL is a little easier to reassemble, but both are quite doable.
