Is it duck recon? ... or a rabbit hunt? the KFU EDC Nessmuk was there.

Received instructions to check out this new backwater we found the other week to see if we could get out there for duck hunting. this spot is kind of a bitch to get to. through some pretty overgrown trees and then down a 50 degree-ish hill to the water. and, it is quite "boggy." but, we saw duck on the water there when we were out partridge hunting pre-season.

so, i went to see if it was "wader-doable".

here is a crappy pic to show the general area. there is about 5 yards of stank water to get to the weeds, then it becomes open water.

the footing is bad in the backwater. sink about thigh high in the muck and it is littered with down trees/limbs. called my buddy and told him probably not a great idea to try to navigate at 5 in the a.m. in the dark. but then, i found this boat in the weeds. this was about a 10 yard walk out on that fallen tree (fortunately). pic is from the bow looking back toward the land.

here is the other direction...toward the water. there is a nice channel right out to it. i better start bailing.

Awww, did the little Muk get bloodied?

Nice shooting Todd,congrats man.
It's good to see the muk getting some field time.

The rabbit & 1100 remind me of a day afield many years ago.......

When I was in the Marines out in NC,we would hunt deer on base & could only use a shotgun with buckshot or smaller shot for small game,so I had a 30" full choke barrel on my 1100 to throw tighter groups with the buckshot.(they later started allowing slugs & I put a Hastings riffled barrel on it)
One time a friend & I were out squirrel hunting,(got skunked) & were walking back to his truck when I spotted a rabbit up ahead.
I knew the groups would be tight with the full choke even with #6 shot so I aimed high hoping to nail it with a few pellets in the bottom of the pattern.
I lined the bead up over it's head & pulled the trigger.
During the recoil I saw something moving away rapidly & thought I'd missed or just wounded the rabbit.
I started hauling butt after it not wanting it to get away wounded & had to pull up short because the rabbit was laying where it was when I shot.
Turns out the thing I saw running away was it's head.
I didn't aim high enough or allowed the barrel to drop & the tight ass group from the 30" full choke took it's head clean off & it went rolling making me think it was the rabbit getting away.
So we didn't get any squirrels that day but that's ok..rabbit is so much better.

Happy eating buddy.

Now for some deer pics.....;)

that's a great story myke. heck of a shot. and, thanks for the kind words.

haven't had the rabbit yet. got home last night, only to discover i had flooded the basement. left the hose on the day before, and turns out there was a leak in the hose. went right into the basement. i was none too pleased with myself.

i did clean the rabbit last night. and yes...the EDC Muk was bloodied. :) worked great. BUT...the gf called about 9:15. she had just got out of practice (she's a roller derby girl), and told me to meet her at a local bar and grill. i needed a drink by then, so i obliged.

busy working tonight so STILL didn't get to cook 'im up. just had to concede defeat and toss it in the freezer for another time. may make a nice stew for football sunday. mmmm.

thanks for checking in myke.

Roller girl huh..cool.

Sorry about the flooding.

sounds cool. but it takes up a lot of her time. i don't complain though. i got my hobbies too. heck, she doesn't even give me too much grief about all the time i spend on a certain "knife forum" website.

My wife thinks Im a dork too, but shes hot and has learned to leave me alone when Im "working"! All I have to do is get her netflix or hulu and she is fine for hours. I cant honestly remember when I watched TV

lol. :D and no TV? that's a good thing. when i watch, it is either sports or something On Demand. I can't commit to a particular time to actually watch anything.

Hell, I'm not sure what my wife thinks of me. She must love me, she can't be with me for my looks or money. Btw, I think she's smokin' hot. Used to lust after her in high school. Good luck with the ducks. Maybe the 'muck will get soiled again.
