Received instructions to check out this new backwater we found the other week to see if we could get out there for duck hunting. this spot is kind of a bitch to get to. through some pretty overgrown trees and then down a 50 degree-ish hill to the water. and, it is quite "boggy." but, we saw duck on the water there when we were out partridge hunting pre-season.
so, i went to see if it was "wader-doable".
here is a crappy pic to show the general area. there is about 5 yards of stank water to get to the weeds, then it becomes open water.
the footing is bad in the backwater. sink about thigh high in the muck and it is littered with down trees/limbs. called my buddy and told him probably not a great idea to try to navigate at 5 in the a.m. in the dark. but then, i found this boat in the weeds. this was about a 10 yard walk out on that fallen tree (fortunately). pic is from the bow looking back toward the land.
here is the other direction...toward the water. there is a nice channel right out to it. i better start bailing.
sun was starting to go down so started walking out. and, look what i ran into...
