I plan to purchase the cqc 11 and I don't plan to clip it onto my pocket so the wave feature will be rendered useless. How easy is it to open the emerson cqc knives by flickin the wrist? Any other methods to open it without using the wave feature? Thanks in advance.

Actually its a thumb disk. I find that Emersons can be opened with the thumb disk at least as easily as any other knife with a stud. If I'm not going to be using the wave, I'd honestly want something like the CQC10 with an opening hole. MUCH easier IMHO to open folders that have the hole feature. The disk is considered by some to be too small to get good purchase on, but I've never had a hard time with it. I've even actually opened my waved knife by putting my thumb under the hook of the wave and opening it that way. Works pretty good, I find. I don't know that you'd want to loosen up your EKI to the point a wrist flick would get it open. Just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Hope this helps.

You will have to break in a new Emerson quite a bit before it will please you with the flick. Either that or loosen the pivot so much that there is some minor lateral movement of the blade. The older ones that have seen lots of pocket time are quite nice though. If you want one already broken in just shop for a used one on the various forums, throw out a want add and check Ebay now and then. These, if still in fine user condition are excellent smooth openers usually.

Hey GUys...

Jin...

Absolutely..

As STR says,, it will be somewhat still to you break it in..
Loosening the pivot is easy to do,, however I find that my pivot loosens by itself...

You'll be fine..

I have an '11 and it was a little stiff when I first got it. You can remove the pivot screw, add little blue loc-tite and adjust it to where you want it. You can also take it apart and adjust the detent to your liking (looser or stiffer). I have done this with all my EKIs and they all open smooth as silk with a flick of the wrist. If you don't want to do that, it will loosen up over time. Also, the weight of the blade itself helps when flicking it open. New, the '11 opened easier than the others, simply because of its size and the weight of the blade. Take it apart, clean it, put it back together and use the hell out of it. That's what it's made for.

all of them will inertia open just fine, some of my fav emersons arent even waved ( I&I tanto, P-Tac) or the ones i have arent waved anyway (specwar custom CQC6& CQC8 & a surefire CQC8)
