Is it impossible to sharpen s110v steel on a sharpmaker?

Obviously its not impossible but for a rookie sharpener like myself, im probably guna have a hard time sharpening this steel. It would probably take forever to do. Imnot experienced with knife sharpening and have never had a knife with s110v steel until today. Just got the manix lw. All i have is a sharpmaker. Will it be really hard to sharpen this steel with a sharpmaker? Am i better off just sending the knife to a pro when it needs to be sharpened? Like i said im a rookie when it comes to sharpening, i really only have experience sharpening s30v, vg10 and thats about it.

Not at all. Yeah, it will take more swipes than AUS8 to get it good and sharp, but it's far from impossible. I do mine freehand on the 701 stones (same material) and it only takes a few minutes. I recently used my S110V Manix to cut sandpaper and got it about as dull as it's ever been, though still reasonably sharp. It still only took a few minutes to bring it back.

My new CF/S110V Native touched up just fine on my sharpmaker, factory edge was very toothy, only took me 10 min to smooth it out significantly using (M-F-UF) rods, a dulled out restoration might be a bit of a bear tho, probably a 30-40 min project with the diamond stones being a big factor. As a side question anyone know how the new CBN stones compare to the diamond?

If you have the diamond stones it's a breeze. I reprofiled my Forum Native and S110V Mule on it, and while it took a bit more time than say, VG-10 or S30V it didn't take that long. And once it's been re-profiled it only takes a few swipes on the medium rods to bring it back to how sharp I like it

I can't say about S110V, but S90V definitely takes longer S30V, 440C, and others. It's not terrible by any means, but it does take more strokes, for sure. You just have to be patient, and willing to allow more time.

Don't let it get too dull, touch up doesn't take long at all just stay on top of it.

All depends on what are you trying to achieve. I wouldn't advise you to reprofile S110V just using standard sharpmaker Rods. Touch-up are fine.
I reprofiled my Forum Native to 14 degrees per side last summer and keep maintaining the edge on medium Rods until recently. So I reprofiled again. WE helped a lot. But even with WE it takes time.

The diamond rods are(IMO) a necessity. I've sharpened my s110 lw with the sharp maker and had great results. I'm definitely glad I got the diamond rods though. Really saves time.

You can sharpen on the regular stones but the diamond cut faster. Keep the stones clean and scrub with comet, etc. It will not cut as well if the stone is dirty. Use good technique and a light touch.

Just picked up an s110v manix. Gonna find out how hard it is to sharpen too. My guess would be that it just takes a little longer.
