Is it just me or does everyone else think of this before thanksgiving?

Making a large slicer for thanksgiving? Either I think of it 2 days before or I don't have the right materials. Sadly the electric carving knife does an awesome job.

It is Sunday, after Church, put on your jeans and go out to the shop. Start on next super-slicer....you have 362 more days to work on it.

And ....yes......, you just reminded me of the fancy slicer I still have in a project box ......that I plan on finishing every year. Oh well, I have 362 more days to make the elaborate guard ( didn't like the first one). It's probably been five-six years since I started it. I always think..."Hey, I have lots of time before Thanksgiving to finish it."
Maybe I'll go out and work on it today.....nahh, I have 362 more days to do that.

no problem i had made one some years ago but not anythign fancy. jsut remember that Xmass ham is comming up too so no point in not having one for that

and many in the fam still look at me funny when i get out a 12 inch carving knife :)

the worst part of the grinding of a slicer is that you can flex it around the belt (only really hitting the edges of the grinder) so get some sharp belts and take your time
also start with under1/8 thick (better to use 3/32 ) remember its not a bird chopping contest

O1 works well as does cpm154 (the 2 i use most )
more and more i have been doing hidden tang oval or octagonal handles

these slicers can also be used for BBQ in the summer and for slicing bread (ot cutting the round top off a cake that will get stacked the wife/GF will liek that part)

so dont think of a nice big slicer as a 2 times a year toool

"also start with under1/8 thick (better to use 3/32 ) remember its not a bird chopping contest" butch

You haven't seen my wife cook a turkey.:D

This was too funny. My wife has cooked food Lynn Thompson would have a hell of a time getting a blade through it . . . :)
Be safe.
p.s.: Mods, please feel free to remove my above name from this post, my wife reads these as well . . . :D
