Hi,
I have a combat grade Battle Mistress that was satin finished, not coated. The drilled holes on the guard and the pommel look very crudely finished. The inside of the drilled holes were not polished in any way (and are coated with rust now) and the holes themselves have a "contersunk" area on both sides which look very crudely done. It was not round in shape, but a haphazard hexagonal kind of shape. Is it just me, or have others that own the combat grade BM also noticed this? I though maybe on the standard coated ones, the coating will cover up these flaws. I know they're termed combat grade, but still...
My sheath was also not properly moulded to my knife. When inserted, it rattles inside the sheath when I walk. For a USD $300
knife (That's about $500 in my currency, which takes as long to make as a person living in the US takes to make USD $500), I was quite dissapointed with the finishing and the sheath. I am however, very happy with the rest of the knife, and find the handles very comfortable, compared to other knives I've owned and used. I also like the strong tip in particular, as I use it to pry coconut fibres when dehusking coconuts for making rope. An ATS-34 fixed blade which I used in this way now has a permanently bent tip.
I thought long and hard before posting these questions, not wanting to offend anyone, but decided to post it because I believe that the purpose of this forum is for honest discussion, whether it sounds good or not. Thanks for any comments.
