I posted last week about a Case that would not take a patina (75, marked CS). I bought a Bear and Son 47, reportedly in 1095 (CS). No patina. Still nothing! Ideas, or are they full of shit?

What are you doing that you're expecting it to stain the steel?

Both companies currently produce knives using both carbon and stainless steels.

All my Case carbon steel knives have patina from use. The same with my Bear & Son's.

Maybe you aren't trying hard enough. Eat a steak with one. Slice a few lemons. Spread some mustard on a sandwich. Stir up some homemade vinaigrette. Skewer a pickle.

Proof: Not the greatest picture I've ever taken but, three recent-ish Case knives - two with patina. The amber bone Stockman and yellow Delrin Trapper are both carbon steel. In the middle, the Case Backpocket is S35VN stainless - no patina, unfortunately. Kinda wish they'd gone K390 instead.
