Is it legal to import spring assisted knives into Canada from the US?

Hello, I'm a starter knife enthusiast (meaning I have little import/export knowledge). I currently reside in Canada (specifically Nova Scotia), and I'm looking to add this spring assisted (NOT gravity, centrifugal or automatic) stiletto-style knife to my collection:

I know it's not a terrific knife, funds are tight right now. Don't judge!

I am aware that knife legislation in Canada concerning this type of knife is as follows:

s. 84(1)

“prohibited weapon” means

(a) a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife"

This knife fits none of these descriptors, as it isn't automatic, gravity or centrifugal, it has no buttons and is activated by a flipper on the blade (not the handle), and by a thumb stud (also on the blade).

Specifically, I would like to know if it is legal to import this knife into Canada from the US and if it is legal for me to carry in Nova Scotia. Also, it wouldn't hurt to know if I can expect trouble with a border official for trying to bring this into Canada. If someone could give me a clear answer soon, that would be fantastic!

Cheers,

The simple answer is a solid maybe. Folder imports are a crap-shoot to Canada. So much so that in my opinion its worth buying local. Spring assisted knives were supposed to be good to go, but customs does things for themselves these days. yeah its only a few bucks if they take it, but there is the risk that stuff to your address gets looked at a little closer in future.

Also an 8$ spring assisted knife will not make you happy. save the coin up and get something from kershaw, or SOG if spring assisted is what you are looking for.

Really not trying to rain on your parade, its just the reality of the situation at this time. It should be fully legal for you to get it, own it, and carry it. But its like explaining that your aftermarket car window tint is of a legal shade if the officer disagrees. Just because you are right, that won't make it easy.
