I have received a few orders from folks in the UK for some friction folders that I make. I have done some research on the legality of sending knives there, but it seems like you need to be a lawyer to understand. Has anyone been through this before who can boil down the rules for a layman like myself? I'd be very much appreciative.

Thank you,

Mike

Import regulations are nowhere near as serious as carry restrictions in the UK. Nearly any single-edged fixed blade should be legal to send, especially if utilitarian in nature, and friction folders should also be fine. Friction folders are even legal for carry in the UK if the blade is under 3". The ones that might be a problem are locking folders, daggers, switchblades, balisongs.

Glistams answer is correct but on top of that....
If it is legal for you to own and ship in the US than it is legal to send it to any country unless there is a US trade embargo for that country. If it is legal to import in the destination country is the buyers responsibility. If it is not, the item can be confiscated by customs in which case the addressee will be notified that the item has been confiscated due to violating import laws.
