Am I gettting older, or are the blade forums members getting younger? It seems we have allot of younger members these days. Anyone notice this?

It has gone in waves..about 4-5 months ago, there was a huge rash of teenagers on the board. Sometimes, we won't get new members forever, then we'll get a bunch of trolls, then we'll get a bunch of new members. It's funny, There are a ton of folks who, when I joined, I thought were the heart and soul of BFC, and they're gone to who knows where.

I actually was there in the beginning, but I left for a long time, and when I came back, had no idea what name I had used (so of course I had to sign up again)!

It is easy to notice the younger crowd with the subjects they talk about and the words, expressions (etc.) that they use. Very similar to my teenage daughter.

rev_jch,
I wonder if it coincides with summer break, when they have more free time. Be interesting to see if they stick around or move on now that school is going again.

I know I'm not getting any younger...

But it is nice to see youger kids getting involved as long as they are here to enjoy with the rest of us and not (A) troll (B) Tell us we don't need to lubricate knives and (C) know everything after their 4th post.

With the schools these days indoctrinating kids with Anti everything I'm sometimes amazed to see them take an interest in guns or knives at all.

Although, I do find it curious that you posted this thread in the "old-farts" section of the forum ;)

I'm gittin' older and I'm still here.

Anyone notice how nice the old Frost cutlery was.

The stuff from the 70's was probably some of the best, I have a few pieces and was just noticing how tight the scales were and the fit and finish was comparable to a lot of the old german stuff and even the older queens from that period.

BTW sorry I'm not tryin' to change or hi-jack, just askin' a knife related question.

Yes, I've noticed it--especially on the forums where they talk about tactical knives. But, It is a a good thing as it may keep some of the U.S. knife factories in business. Somebody has to keep the love of knives alive in years to come.

The old frosts were nice. i sue to have some of the old parker-frost Japan made ones, they were high quality!

It is good the younger people are interested, but I hope they find interest in more than just tacticals.

It is funny, I have noticed many of these yougn people become "knife making experts" without any knowldge of knife making at all!!! Ive been making knives much longer than some of these kids have been around. Some of the things I have heard are absolutely absurd.

im 18, and once i got to college i found that i have soo much free time so this is where a lot of it is spent and im always expanding my knowledge on knives. But it makes me mad that i cant have my knives with me (or at least not all of them :( but dont tell my RA ;) )

Hmmmm...well if he comes here I think your secret is out

...but chances are he probably doesnt.......?

I think that it is great that younger people are taking an interest in knives. I think that just has it is with many hobbies, they will start off in what they consider COOL, but as they mature in this hobby they will gain a better focus on the total hobby and be able to learn just we all did about the finer points. I am a good example of that. In the 1970's I was all about survial knives. Now I don't even own one. I do have a rather nice collection of early pocket knives that will be with me until I part this dear earth and hopefully some "young whipper snapper" will understand my passion and continue on with it. I only wish that one of my sons would take and interest. I guess if the new comers were female and good looking it would certianly encourage them more ;)

I am also 18 and in college but have a love for knives that i cant control! I know Dniice87 and have been good friends with him for a while, but we are the only people that i know who take an intrest to knives beyond just owning 1 or 2. I think most of the younger crowd sign up here to post a few questions about what knife they should get and they post maybe 5 or so posts and are never to be seen again after their first knife. We grew up in a middle class suburban neighbor hood where most people tend to lean towards the left wing and where the mention of you owning guns you were thought of as a "gun nut". Me and Dniice87 had the privelage of growing up with families that were big into the outdoor, hunting and fishing scene and i feel this is what allowed us to have access to knives. We grew up around them and our families promote responsible ownership of them which is why we are here.

You need us or else who's gona make the knives for you when your to old to make them yourselves! :D

Lurp,

Come over here .... a little closer ...... so I can whack you with my cane! ;)

I'm 30 (31 in a week), but I'm probably one of the younger ones. I too appreciate the even younger crowd (kids like Needleremorse are great). The only thing that bothers me is the spelling/punctuation. I will give themm a long leeway if they're in here instead of PracTac, though. :D

Lurp, dont seak to quickly! We`all grow old fast!! Many of those in iraq now were in diapers when I was over there (over 14 years ago). Others were jumping off school buses while we were jumping out of airplanes.

Time goes fast, make no mistake of this. Life is short.

With that said it is good to see younger people interested in knives. Hopefully they are responsible and a "healthy" interest in knives.

When I was younger the kids could bring their rifles and leave them in the lockers till after school to go deer hunting. You could carry a pocket knife, nothing ever said. Kids were more respectful to adults. And you did not have an epidemic of violence in schools. Times have changed. Of course the parents have to take some resposibility in the way they raise their kids. It is not easy, I know this as a parent of a 11 yeard old daughter, and a teenage daughter.

I hear ya rev...
My daughter comes home from college to visit this weekend.
Seems like last week I was walking her to school.

And for all you snot nosed kids out there...
Go buy a slip joint!
;)

LMAO

Note to Self: Stop visiting the "old-farts" sub-forum. :D

I don't think that you have to be an "old-fart" to enjoy slips. :D I'm proof of that. :D :D :D
