Is it normal for 0561 to unlock after falling?

Hey all,
After posting here before, it seems like the frame lock on my ZT 0561 is about 40% and seems solid. The blade is also pretty well centered (not perfect but pretty damn close).

Anyways, the other day I had the knife open and dropped it from about 4ish feet when I was flipping it over in my hand. It dropped, point down on my shoe but at an angle where it hit the spine of the knife rather than dead on with the point. The knife bounced up and the frame lock became disengaged and the knife ended up in an L shaped position, half open, half closed.

Should the frame lock be this easy to disengage or was this a weird freak accident? I'm not gonna do a "spine whack" test or anything cause I don't want to damage the knife. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Tap the spine of the blade on the edge of your shoe, not hard just moderately a few times and see if it unlocks. (this shouldn't cause any damage) If it doesn't I'd say you have nothing to worry about and it might have been something that caused the blade to unlock, when you dropped it that won't happen easily again.

I'd say if you drop your knife all bets are off on what it should or shouldn't do as the variables are pretty much limitless. If it locks and unlocks like it's supposed to then it probably wasn't damaged. Just use it and a avoid dropping it in the future.

In a perfect world, a folder should sense when it's dropped, and before it hits the floor, unlock, fold closed, and land on its clip side.

It should not have opened. First try and close it with your hands, if the lock moves and it closes, send it in. Then give it a spine whack test, don't flail on it, but give it a good whack (fingers out of the way). If it fails, send it in. Some may think a spine whack test is not legitimate, but when asked, both custom and production makers all say their knives will pass and should pass...unless it's a slipjoint :)

It should not have opened. You may have a poor lock.

First try closing it with your hands, if you can defeat the lock, send it in. Next try the spine wack test, give it good wack, but don't wail on it. I like to use the edge of a table. If it fails, send it in. You may be able to fix it yourself or it may go away as the knife "breaks in."

Every knife maker and manufacturer I've talked to says their knives pass the spine whack test and any frame lock, liner lock, lock back and button lock should pass...but not slipjoints :)

He dropped the knife while it was open.

A closed non-traditional folder can open up when dropped, and it happens a lot. Nothing wrong with that.
