Is it odd to like blade discoloration?

About 6 years ago, I would flip out if I got a speck of surface corrosion on one of my blades. But just today I noticed a 1" long cluster of tiny patina dots on one of my bead blasted AUS8 blades, and I was actually happy about it.

Maybe its because of the old KA-BAR and Case slipjoints I've gotten in the past couple of years which have ancient-looking black corrosion patterns giving character to the blades. I'm just not sure.

I do like a good patina on a high carbon blade, such as a Boker whittler, Case XX Sodbuster, or Opineal No. 8. But on a Kershaw,.... no, I keep it slightly mineral oiled.

I have a twenty+ year old Yellow Case Stockman that has a really nice patina on the main blade (the one that gets used the most).
I used to clean it off regularly to keep the shiny surface, but no longer bother.

Gives the knife an EDC character look, IMO. Some knives look better as users than "safe queens".
