Heading to opening day tomorrow in Texas. Is it ok to carry a pocket knife into the game? If so, any particular blade size?

Best to check the website of your team / stadium. You'll usually find park rules there.

Most ballparks forbid "weapons", so be careful in regards to what a security guard might include in that category.

What I normally do is take a cheapo knife that you will not lose any sleep over if it gets confiscated. Go get one of them $5.00 knives from the corner Shell station and walk in as if you are doing nothing wrong. Slip it down in your pocket so the clip does not show.

If they take it, you are out $5.00.;)

Clip it inside your waistband and don't pull it out unless you need to. Every Yankee and Mets game I go to I have a knife on me. I like carrying a wireclip Spyderco. Usually a CF Caly 3, UKPK, or Sage I.

Yeah, I think you'll unfortunately be at the mercy of the security guard's discretion.

Hi txgolfer45 -

I get my SAK Waiter and SOG Flash I into Busch Stadium (and Soldier Field for that matter) every time, although I do not advertise that I have them with me.

I leave my larger folders at home when going to the ballpark.

best regards -

+1:thumbup:

I read a little while back that some of the security at the fields look for and spot the pocket clips...IWB would be your best option

in los angeles, we go through metal detectors at our sports venues.

i was in nashville not too long ago, and no such policy or practice. i could have taken my pistol inside.

if there is nothing on the venue website, i would guess you are fine, but that's only a guess.

you lucky guy! I wish I could. I'm stuck in AR.

I go to the ballpark a lot in the summer. I just unclip my knife and shove it in my pocket and most of the time I get thru the gate without getting "wanded". I have before though and it didnt get picked up. They rifle through purses though :)

GO RANGERS!!!!!

Why do they forbid umbrellas?

Not a clue. The hockey arena here forbids umbrellas and waterbottles (even empty ones). But I was able to bring my knitting in (apparently a 6'8", 230lb guy with a pair of 8-inch long needles is innocuous, but a collapsing umbrella and empty Nalgene screams 'ginger jihad').

I think they forbid umbrellas because they can block peoples view. I know umbrellas weren't allowed in the 1970's when I was a kid and no one in Atlanta cared about pocket knives.

They forbid waterbottles because people used to throw them onto the ice.
And why would you need an umbrella in an arena...

They go through purses and backpacks at Astros' games here in Houston. I think they are mostly looking for food 'cause Drayton wants to make every penny he can. I could carry any knife I wanted into an Astros game...but a bag of chips would get confiscated.

Oh wait, I should not even have answered this question. You said major league teams. Nevermind.
