Is it possible for handle scale to shrink?

I had bought an asian water buffalo horn 110 back around November. I've been carrying around the knife since. Lately as I run my fingers across the buffalo horn to the bloster my finger can feel an ever so slight gap. Nothing to complain about. Nor anything to send the knife back for yet. Granted its been really cold in the north east. Single digit temps for several days. I was curious if it was my imagination or if the extreme cold caused slight separation. I thought I saw a thread on here asking about the same thing. But after a quick search I couldn't see it. I'll be keeping an eye on the knife to see if it gets worse. If this happened to anyone else I'll be curious to see. I still plan to carry the knife around.

May be the dryness more than the cold. I can see most natural materials shrinking a bit in the cold/dry air.

Horn scales will shrink with drying over time. I would wipe them down with some mineral oil overnight once a week to keep them looking good. 300Bucks

The best method to prevent shrinking of horn and stag scales is to use the knife.
The skin oil of the hands protects the surface and water or moisture stops shrinking.
If you have a gap between bolster and scale put the knife into the freezer for a day
or two and the gap will disappear.
