I just bought a used spyderco southard and i got a good deal on it because it is missing the washers. It has the bearings but the metal washers that go inbetween the bearing and titanium are missing. So it affects the lockup and centering a bit. Well I contacted spyderco and they said I have to send my knife in and they would charge me. And i don't think they will fix it because the lockside was anodized also. So i am in a pinch here andd was wondering if i could buy the washers from a knife parts website. Like at alpha knife supply or something. If you know anything or have any links would be extremley appreicated. Thanks guys & gals

I need the race washers- Anybody know the pivot size or the bearing sizes?

Not to give you any crap, but why did you buy that "Frankenstein" knife to begin with?
Honestly, I'd just send it to Spyderco. If they don't fix it, then you learned an expensive lesson; never buy someone else's problem.

well i usually dont buy problem knives but i got a really good deal on it (well i think)
It was $150 and it was anodized by lionwerks and has a Carbon Fiber scale and lbs
But if i could buy the $3 part from a website it would save me time and money from waiting and paying for repairs

Even if you buy new washers, they will most likely have to be fit to the knife. There's no guarantee new washers will center the blade without fitting them first. It baffles me why the washers are missing to begin with...

Ps, a brand new Southard can be had for only about $60 more.
I'd consider returning yours to the dealer and saving up for a new one without problems.

Obviously he didn't buy from a dealer and we can't change yesterday, the guy is looking for some knowledgable help not a beat down.

Washers only have 3 dimensions: diameter, thickness, and hole size. After that a material specification is required. If you can specify the 4 parameters, a search for the needed parts should not be too difficult. If you are not in a hurry, I can knock my Southard apart and make the necessary measurements.

The southard bearing races are concave so it is much harder to find them.

Well aren't you a white knight...

I gave him my opinion. If you don't like it, then you know where you can put it;)
I never said I have the definitive answer...

Sorry, I thought you were looking for washers not bearing races. Try contacting Brad Southard. Maybe he can talk you through it.

Measuring mine, I get .003" thick, .433 OD, .215 ID.
Don't worry about the concave race; they're so thin a flat washer will bend to shape when you tighten the pivot.

If I were in your shoes I'd give spyderco a call and ask if they can help you out just this once by shipping a set out for whatever they think is a fair price. As suggested, Mr. Southard may be able to help as well.

At that price I'd say it's worth the bit of hassle you're dealing with.

Thank you sir! I appreciate that, ill see if I can email brad and maybe he'll be nice enough to reply!
And spyderco said that they won't ship out any internal pieces- idk why Kershaw/ZT does no problem

Thanks, someone already pitched in the dimensions but thank you. I got a buddy that just put some ceramic bearings in his southard doing some research. He knows a lot more than me about the internal and whatnot

I don't think Spyderco charge that much to fix it. Takes a bit of time, but should be worth it on a knife like this. I don't think they will refuse to do it just because it has been anodized and had a scale swap..

I had my Southard apart yesterday and almost lost a washer.

My local True Value hardware store has an abundance of thin washers, I'm sure I could have sourced a replacement there, if I hadn't found the missing one.

Was this the one on knife_swap? You got a good deal!
I'm in the same boat, one of my washers is worn almost through.

Well if finding them online is nigh impossible and spyderco has folded their arms, I suggest you buy some washers of that size and just grind em down with a course stone to fit size
