About 2 months ago now, I told myself I needed a folder/fixed blade for general use.

Having the years of experience of going through over $5,000 in Japanese kitchen knives/stones and going through all the phases: 1)hoarding all I could try/buy... 2)fine-tuning personal tastes...3)simplifying collection and selling off what you don't use...etc), I knew what I was getting into and exactly how to handle it a bit more maturely this time.

So I knew all I would ever need was a Paramilitary 2 based on a few recommendations, and that would easily handle all the things I ever planned on throwing at it. Well, against my better judgement and foresight, I went down the same rabbit hole that I deliberately tried to avoid...and here I am today.

To help justify it to myself, at least all of these knives are users and won't just sit around in a box--but I'm realizing I have too many choices on what to carry (should have just kept it simple like my original plan).

Still though, I love each one of these knives for a different reason...my current favorite surprises me, as its my little Scrapivore I just received--takes an amazing edge and just feels awesome.

How does this happen to us? Even when you think you have total self control, it gets away from you. Can't believe I got sucked in again, but glad I did and happy to be here!

Guilty here.

I have no need for anymore folders, and everytime I buy one I say "ok, no more folders what I really need is a good sized fixed blade!"

I never end up getting those fixed blades! :( Lately though whenever I get a crazy I have been buying something cheap. Last week I was at Lowes buying a new cordless drill and saw they had a few knives in a little case. I saw they had Case Sod Busters Jrs. which I've seen all the time but never really cared for them. I ended up buying one and I LOVE it! I carry it more than my PM2, 0561 delica. I just love it, about it get a carbon steel one soon too!

Don't tell me this. I'm currently gong through stage 3. I've found my ONE knife, but if it is inevitable that ill amass another collection why bother. Speaking of which, how do like that Gayle Bradley? That'll probably be my next knife.

Trading helps. When I get the urge for a new knife, I find one I'm not using and trade it on the Exchange. That way I have some fresh steel rotating through, but I don't accumulate too many. I try not to keep anything that doesn't get regular use.

It's sheer madness.
Keep a few favorites and sell the rest AND sell-one-to-buy one or just trade ONLY!
This is working for me.

2 years ago I owned maybe 4 knives, for hunting and fishing. Now I own over 80... I got it bad. I am in stage 3 now though, so I guess that is a good sign? Problem now is all the knives I want are mid-techs or customs. Man, it's like crack!

To curb my addiction to buying knives, I stated making knives. Just slightly changed the addiction.... Still a knife junky.

Yeah, I feel you on that.

I've sort of decided to go with more value oriented knives for a while. I don't need fancy. I need functional.

That's when it gets really dangerous. I was there not too long ago. I felt the need to acquire only super high end knives, even though I had no way of affording them. I'm glad I got out of that state of mind with only a Sebenza. It saved me from Bankruptcy :)

At this stage I have found no cure. I relapse every 4 years or so :)

First it was combat knives, then chinese and japanese weapons, followed by 80's favourites and now most recently bushcrafter blades.

I think the US dollar rising and Australias nanny state laws will stop my collecting well before my interest wanes...

Gayle Bradley is awesome. Get one

I'm at the point of considering buying knives with the express purpose of taking a bunch of pictures, carrying them for a week, and selling them. I can't stand seeing knives go unused.
In the end I know that my OLFA will reign supreme as EDC, but just being able to play with the others temporarily is really tempting.

I have slowed down a bit recently but have purchased a few CONDOR blades in the last 4-5 months. I just find collecting knives relaxing and it really helps me unwind from my daily techno-geek job. They're my anti-computer dope and I am definitely hooked! :D

I've slowed down in time and only have 6 higher end knives that I've kept around.
It was 7, but I traded one off for some things that I really need.

Though there are some on my list.
I really want to get a CRK Small Sebenza Insingo - to go with my Large drop point.
And I want my first custom as well as a Strider SJ75.
Then there are some productions I really want.

I love knives. I'm normally heavily into the trading game. I'm running out of things to trade.

I hadn't bought any knives for 4 or so months and then in the past two weeks I bought a Spyderco Air and Small Insingo. Seems like temporary relapses are the norm.
