I was just wondering that yesterday. Would you get the nutrients from it just by snacking on it and washing it down with water? Would your disgestive system agree?

Thanks.:)

It would be hard to digest in that it would pass through without getting much nutrition from it. Soaked and eaten uncooked would be better but a hot meal is best !

Those responses (especially the ones about "blood levels") kinda strike me as less than credible. Thanks for posting. Food for thought. :)

As far as I know, there are no microorganisms or harmful ingredients that need to be neutralized by high temperature, so then there's only potentially the issue of swelling, maybe some bloating and gas. With adequate chewing, stomach acid should be able to handle the rice?

I've heard japanese foot soldiers used to soak rice in water and vinegar when they couldnt start a fire.

Well doing that kills pidgeons. I have a feeling that it might mess up a human's stomach. You'd probably be better off soaking it in water for hours...?

Yeah you could, but it'd be a filler meal. No real nutritional value. Like eating a cup of starch.

That link is a testament for why asking health questions on sites where they are answered by the public, is generally a VERY bad idea.

# Also try soaking with lemon juice or vinegar or whey. this will decrease the anti-nutrients.

What are "anti-nutrients" exactly?

# If left out for more than 45 minutes, don't eat it or you'll get food poisoning.

Magic 45 minute mark? 44 minutes is okay though.

I linked that wiki stuff because I recall an animal show about eating dogs in indonesia? The recipe was starvation, feed raw rice, add water. the resultant swelling simultaneously cleaned and stuffed the dog for roasting. I don't necessarily believe anything I see on TV or read on Wikipedia,or bladeforums for that matter, but it was something to think about before trying.

You could have some roadkill uncooked on the side. :)
I've got to think rice is one of those foods that digests much easier with some form of cooking, if only crushing and soaking.

I remember in wildlife management class a quick rant my professor had: He stated that eating uncooked vegetables cost almost as much nutrition to digest as the vegetable itself. I thought that was interesting.

I'm not sure that is across the board, but definitely in some cases. Carrots and lettuce for sure. If you know anyone in weight watchers, take a look at their cards. The foods that are very low to no "points" are the ones your prof was talking about. In the case of raw carrots, WW gives them zero points. According to their belief, you could eat raw carrots 24 hours a day and not use up any of your points. Sounds yummy!! :D

More than a thousand or more years of use and we are to become rabbits? look to see all the ways of preparing, your not saving any time but cutting the calories your body can use.
As stated eat as soon as cooked do Not save for later as your putting yourself in danger of food poisoning .
