Is it possible to open a waved knife if it isn't clipped to your pocket?

I plan to buy a waved endura or waved emerson and i don't plan to clip it to my pocket. Can I still open it if i make sure to rub the knife against the insides of my pants really hard to open it without having it clipped? Thanks in advance.

You can wave it IWB, in your back pocket, However you want. Just catch the hook on something and pull it open. Just practice. I wave my Emerson open on my wife's sweet a$$, I catch it on her hip huggers pocket when she walks by sometimes:D

One solution would be to get a mercharness (sp?), unfortunately I can't remember who makes them.

In order for the wave to work, it's got to catch on something, usually the edge of your pocket. I don't know what kind of pants you're wearing, but getting the wave to catch on friction alone would be pretty difficult, IMHO. Wherever you're carrying it, just make sure your method of drawing makes it catch on the edge of your pants.

I carry a Emerson Combat Karambit and I don't clip it always.

If you carry is loose in the pocket, make sure you grab it correctly and as you pull it make sure the wave hits either the back edge of your pocket (opens in saber grip) or the front edge (opens in reverse grip).

Also Mr Emerson has made this
maybe you could get someone to make you something similar

Even if its not clipped to your pocket, you should still be able to wave-open the waved endura on the top of your pocket, on the same spot as if it were clipped. Just make sure to grab and draw it in the correct orientation. And practice it a lot.
Also you can open it with the thumbhole, one handed, almost as fast.

My mistake, not the mercharness, I was thinking of the speed dialer. The guy who makes it goes by the name of Normark (I think?).

Thanks for the mention, as long as you can hook the wave you can open it on damn near everything.

Sitting down, I have waved open an Emerson Commander, Endura Wave, and a Cold Steel Ti-Lite on the top edge of my prosthetic foot, which comes up alongside my knee. The Ti-Lite waved nicely on a table edge. The Endura Wave can be opened by thumbing the Wave, sort of like the cobra hood or an opening disc.

The only thing I'll caution is that when just hooking the wave on part of your clothing in order to open the blade, there is the possibility that the tip can get caught either on your clothing or on you as it flips open. I was opening a ti-lite on a vest pocket and didn't notice that the tip of the blade had caught part of the vest and cut a nice gash in it. Would be really bad if it was to catch me. What I'm trying to say is that the blade comes open quite quickly and you need some room for it to open.

srry to hijack buy CShepherd check your setting, I sent you an emule and I dont think it got through. Can you recieve email from forum mems?

I think that the main advantage of the wave (other than the cool effect) is that the knife opens fast and pretty reliably in a potental self defense situation. To me, this means keeping it clilpped to the pocket. If it's in the pocket, it can rotate, you have to reach into the pocket, hand can get stuck in the pocket, ect.. In my opinion, that takes directily away from its speed and reliablity. However, if sd isn't a big concern to you, it should work and you'll be able to wave it openned. But, if that's the case, the thumb disk or inertia will work just as well, and maybe even better. -Just anonther point of view for ya.
