I recently got a Crawford KFF and I dinged it up a bit sharpening it and was wondering if it's possible to re satin finish it?

I'm also wondering if I'm the only person who does this with their Sharpmaker. I swear you can tell the knives I use the most by the dings in it from hitting the tops of my SM stones. At least these are users so it doesn't matter soooo much but it still irritates the heck out of me to do that to a $400+ knife.

thanks,

You are not alone. I put a big scratch in the blade of my very first custom knife, a DDR small Apogee, that way.

The proper wheel and rouge with a bench buffer. It takes a long time for a mirror finish.

Well, I guess I can stop coming up with good lies when I approach the makers to redo the finish. So far it's one sebbie, a Brian Tighe, and this KFF. I think I get going too fast when it happens and slowing down is for other people. ;) I wonder why I don't do it to cheaper knives though.

Can the Satin Finnish be redone??

thanks,

Yes, much easier than mirror...much easier. The only problem you can run into is if the damage is up by the scales and you can't get a good shot at it. Remember the mfg. or maker is doing the finish work to the blade, prior to attaching the scales. This site should give you some information http://www.northcoastknives.com/. There are dozens of sites with a skad of information that could help you out if you want to do it yourself.

pat crawford usually will redo them for $25 or so, redo the finish on the blade and handle, some have told me he wont do this anymore (or maybe its his son??) but he redid my perfigo last summer, IIRC $25 incl shipping, i always talk to pat when i call (he usually answers the phone), a really good guy imho, he stands behind his products 110%

if ya dont know how to do it, its prob gonna look funky, i would leave it alon e rather than attempt it myself.
