is it possible to sharpen a double edged knife that has "false edges"

I do hope that you arn't going to EDC that :p

But it's a display item so it won't be sharp at all. You could sharpen it but it would probally take off the cheap coating on it.

It looks like the first time you take that off the display it will fall apart in your hands. You could probably sharpen the back edge, but what steel is it even made from? You may end up destroying the thing altogether. I would look into something else if you want a usable blade. If it's really what you want then don't even bother sharpening the back edge because it is nothing more than a display piece.

It may as well say tin. Those style of "blade" are really not meant to be used, but are best hung up somewhere, maybe gently handled now and again. Certainly not meant to be used as a tool or weapon, or really even a play thing. Usually the fittings are caste pot metal. I've owned a few and fixed a few of these types, and they really are best just avoided.

If you really wanted to you could sharpen that, as they typically are ground on both sides. But you'll need either a file, or a xcourse stone or diamond sharpener to put the bevel on there. Chainsaw files might do it for those curves, then a ceramic rod. Honestly it'd be a waste of time, it won't hold an edge, and it will fall apart.

First of all, welcome to the forums:). To answer your question, yes, false edges can be sharpened. However, the reason people here are saying that the knife will likely fall apart is because those types of knives usually aren't what's called "heat treated" properly. Both the type of steel used AND the heat treatment will make a blade usable or not. It's in our experience that those types of fantasy knives do not have any type of heat treatment for the purpose of using a blade. For example I can sharpen a butter knife so that it's somewhat sharp, but it will become dull pretty much once you start using it. This is because butter knives don't have the same usage as kitchen knives, so they don't worry about the heat treatment. On top of this, the handle probably isn't made for the knife to be used. Trying to hack at a tree really hard with something like that will likely result in the blade breaking off or the tang slipping out from the handle, causing it to go flying somewhere. If you want to keep that knife-looking item to hang on a wall, fine. If you're looking for a knife that works, go with something else. If you like, people on this forum can recommend a bunch of blades based on what you plan on doing with it and your price range. Hope this helps.

Yeah, those edges could be sharpened, but as others have said... If you plan on a knife you can actually USE, I would recommend staying away. It's a display item.

Considering they don't even know what a false edge is, I'd avoid buying anything from them.

It isn't safe to use because it's a twenty-four dollar knife. The fantasy part barely comes into it. Ditch that skull-plated sissy sword and get yourself a RAT.

There are plenty of twenty-four dollar knives out there that are safe to use. That just doesn't happen to be one of them. ;)
