Is it possible?

Hello Guys!
I just got my new outdoor knife, used once, and I totally love it. It came with a simple, but absolutely functional leather sheath. I'm thinking about making a kydex sheath for it (never tried before). As you can see below, the shape of the knife is quite unusual. It's very comfortable, but I'm not sure it's possible to make a kydex sheath for it, because of the higher level of the back of the scales compared to the blades spines level. What do you think, is that possible to get a good snap-in action for this knife or is that just a waste of time and resources?

it can be...I whipped this up quick in paint [with no real thought to design] but this is one possibility

As shown above it can absolutely be done. However, I fear the kydex may not be as friendly as leather would be to the finish on your wood scales.

Good luck!

For a two-piece sheath, it won't make a difference. For a foldover, you can cut it like druid suggests before forming (and fix it afterwards) or just do it like you would anything else. You'll have a bit of extra material there on the latter, but it's not gonna hurt anything and you'll be able to form a thumb area if wanted. No reason at all that you can't get good retention on that knife. That dip won't matter much as far as the material forming around it.

Spot on.

Kydex 100% will not hurt the wood if done correctly.

I think a little bulk could be added to the wood before bend to make it so that only a wee tiny bit of wood comes in contact with the kydex, and still give a good "snap in" retention. Or a style with only the blade in kydex with a little retention strap. Lots of options. Real kydex is much easier on our guns and knives than some of the mass produced abs crap you see in big box stores.

Retention could also be made with a couple well placed indentations over the blade, and not have anything touch the wood.

But when I look at that knife with that great wood grain, personally I think it just screams "keep me in leather". [emoji1]

If that leather sheath style is not to your liking, have someone make you a leather sheath of another style or design. There are designs without end that could look more tactical, or traditional, or elegant, or you name it. Personally I'm a big fan of stacked leather sheaths, but have plenty of simple sandwich and fold overs too.

Something like this would give good retention, and allow you to show off that great wood handle. Sorry about the ugly g10, it's the only pic I had on hand.

Thank you guys for the replies, I appreciate it. I have no problem with leather itself, and as you said leather is matching mutch better with the design of the knife. The reason I wanted a kydex is that it's own sheath is not really a one-hand thing. I like when I can deploy my knife with one hand both fixed blades and folders. I also thought it would be cool to add a little holder for a ferro rod and a pouch for fat wood or something like that. But if you say kydex can hurt my knifes scales, especially if I'm total newbie in this subject, then it's not worth it.
