I am not an expert, but I would note that the makers mark looks off as well. It is uneven/poor strike. Meaning the depth is not consistent, and washes out. I have never seen that on any CR knives I have handled. They have a pretty good rep for consistency, and uniformity in their designs, and that extends to the makers mark.
Also, the finish on the handle looks off. Note how the top handle radius is smoothed/rounded out on the transition line on the two other examples you posted. Look at how how sharp that same line looks on your friends knife. Both sharp, and you can see the rough fibers exposed.
On the versions I have handled that spot is smoother, radius-ed. The handle scales seem to be more finished on the CR's in the other photo's. In hand they feel almost media blasted? Hard to describe. Hopefully some one who knows more will post that it is real, because it is a real bummer if it is fake, and your friend was taken.
