Is It Real?

I have a buddy who owns this CRK, and he's discussing trading it to someone, but the gentleman in question doubts that it's real. Can anyone let me know if it's possible to determine whether it's genuine or otherwise from these pics?

Thanks!

If that's supposed to be a 5.5 in. Green Beret, it doesn't look like mine. Mine has 5 serration "grooves," not 6. Also, the authentic handle has three horizontal "grooves" between two of the screws. For what it's worth, my sheath does not look that the one in your pictures.

There appear to be variations on the serrations and handle grooves. These are real for sure and you can see that they vary from how you describe yours

No handle grooves on this one

4 serrations on this one

Again no handle grooves

Interesting. I would not have expected that.

I am not an expert, but I would note that the makers mark looks off as well. It is uneven/poor strike. Meaning the depth is not consistent, and washes out. I have never seen that on any CR knives I have handled. They have a pretty good rep for consistency, and uniformity in their designs, and that extends to the makers mark.

Also, the finish on the handle looks off. Note how the top handle radius is smoothed/rounded out on the transition line on the two other examples you posted. Look at how how sharp that same line looks on your friends knife. Both sharp, and you can see the rough fibers exposed.

On the versions I have handled that spot is smoother, radius-ed. The handle scales seem to be more finished on the CR's in the other photo's. In hand they feel almost media blasted? Hard to describe. Hopefully some one who knows more will post that it is real, because it is a real bummer if it is fake, and your friend was taken.

Look closely at the finish on the micarta handle slabs, especially at the hilt, around the screw heads, and around the lanyard cut-out. Do you really think Reeve would let a knife leave the shop looking like that?

That's why i'm askin you guys :) I know Busse, Condor, ZT, and quite a few others, but i am no expert on CRK.

That is one of the well known fake GBs that have been going about for a while now. That knife was not mady by CRK.

Shall I ask the painfully obvious question? How much did "your friend" pay for this knife off of ebay/aliexpress/craigslist?
