This guy makes it look stupid easy. Your thoughts?

Yes, splitting straight grain alder is really that simple. But I usually use a butter knife rather than a $200 gimmick.

It's a novel-looking critter to be sure and you can see that it works via prying action just after the head strikes the wood. You wouldn't want to grip the handle too tightly though!

By the time you set it all up I would have a reasonable pile cut and my wrists would still be in good condition.

OH NO...the lever axe AGAIN!

For sure I'm always a cynic but (beg borrow steal) I would be quite interested in comparing one of these novelties to conventional stuff in a 'real world' situation. The developer of this tool couldn't possibly have been tangling with knot-free alder/ash/birch when he originally sought to improve upon the design of a splitter. There is serious money and investment involved when trying to design, manufacture and market something that is entirely new.

Wranglestar on YouTube reviewed it. Said it jarred him pretty bad and because it always wrenched sideways, it was hard on his arms.

Just hold a normal axe with a loose grip and the head about 30° out of alignment with your swing.
