Is it supposed to hurt?

Hey all, it has been crazy around here lately as Christmas usually is, but i got a great X-Mas present this year to boot.

My flagship knife the "Jade Fighter" has been sold (thanks Gabe). I have mixed feelings. I am glad to sell a knife, but I am also a bit saddened by it. No more looking at it sitting in the display case at the restaurant and no more fantasizing if it would sell.:(

Do you guys go thru the same thing when you sell a knife?

Oh yeah here is a picture incase you forgot what it looked like;)

Thought about it some more, and I guess its kind of like when I sell a horse and feel bad about it (OK some I wanted to put a foot up their ass one last time as they got on the buyers trailer....for old times sake ;) ) Anyway, if its something you really like you hate to see it go. As long as its for sale its still yours, once it goes you don't even see it anymore. I've never felt that way about a knife but I could see how someone would. Especially one as nice as that.

I'm also a greedy/insanely cheap bastid, so the money is pretty good consolation. :D

I have one now that has been done for almost two weeks and I just can't seem to bring myself around to sharpen her and send her on her way. Something about the desert ironwood that says keep me :D

If you make them to sell you ought to be happy as hell. I'm with Bruce by the time I'm done with a knife it's AFM wheres the money.

However there have been a few times I have had second thoughts.
My Master dagger for one.

Merry Christmas everyone

Michael

That is a fine knife Laredo7mm, I would not of let it go if it were mine!

I agree with Bruce for the most part but, sometimes I finish one that I really don't want to let go (but I do, Tess makes sure of it). Tess always says "well, you can just make another one". The only trouble is, I know she won't let me keep that one either and by that point I'm doing something else anyway! I think she's just evil.
:D
Sometimes it s**ks and at the same time, sometimes it's a beautiful thing.

You guys kill me.

Yeah it was a love hate relationship at first, especially working that jade. But so much time invested, and waiting, and wondering.....

Anyway, Gabe, I hope you like it and I am still on track with the delivery date, plus your pen is also going well.

Just seems wierd to me that she is going to be gone soon. However, that is what I make them for, right? get the satisfaction of creating something nice, and have someone else appreciate it enough to buy it.

Matt Shade - Not a major point, but it is not my first one. The others I have sold were repros of gifts that I gave to family. Although not originals, they were patterned off my own design. This one however, I don't think I will make another one like it. Well maybe not...

Michael - Don't get me wrong, I am as happy as a pig in S!@t, but still whish I had another one laying around.

It will all be good, I ain't crying about it, but I will just miss it, I guess. Sniffle, sniffle, sniffle, all the way to the bank...HeHeHe.

Seriously, I hope Gabe likes owning it as much as I did.

Laredo, at least you know he will give her a good home, the lucky guy! I just finished a couple and delivered them last night. Some, yeah, I really miss, some, I am glad to see gone! I sent Roger a pic of the two I delivered, but I am not able to post them. Lousy grade pics, anyhow. Dang, It was good seeing your knife again!

Thats a real fine knife. I'd hate to part with it also, but if you are happy with the new owner, thats all that matters.

Laredo,
When you put a lot of yourself in any thing you make it is more like loosing a child. At least that's the way with me.

The longer I work on a blade, seems like it kinda grows on me. I do not mean the 12-15 hr $150.00 EDC sheath knife. The ones we start and just keep working on in our spare time. Before long we have much too much time in the production, but we strive to make everything just so so. We finally sell it, maybe break even or make a little, and then we are just left with the memory. Yes, sometimes it is hard to let certain knives go bye bye.
