Someone start talking to me. I have a place to stay now if'n I decide against a hotel room. Does one have to arrange for a pass to get into the show ? Credentials?

It's never too early to talk about Blade Show.

VIP passes are given out by the tableholders. Keep an eye out on the forums and I'm sure you'll spot a maker/manufacturer/purveyor giving them away. They usually give them out about a month before the show or so.

The guys here at the H.I. forum usually get together for dinner at least once and sometimes for a lunch.
It's great to meet they guys you have been talking with and putting faces with names. Ofcourse at these dinners it's practically required that you pass around whatever sharp and shinies you've purchased at the show.:) It's always fun to see the reactions of the people around you. :D

For the show itself:
Wear good shoes. You'll walk a LOT.
Bring cash, you'll spend a LOT. If you're lucky.
Bring a vest or waistpack to slip your purchases into for easier carrying. I was forutunate last year to have a friend get a table and was able to stash all my goodies under it.
Take water with you, it's easy to get dehydrated.
Figure which makers you absolutly have to buy from and get to thier table first. Top makers sell out FAST if they don't sell out before the show.
A big part of the show is the "pit" at the rennisance waverly. That's the sunken bar area. A lot of deals are done there before the show even opens.
And each night after the show closes it basicly moves to the pit.

Be polite to the tableholders. Ask before taking pics. Ask before picking up stuff, most want you to pick it up but some don't. Don't try to haggle.
If the price is lower than marked...(sunday afternoon some dealers will lower prices...) they will tell you.
Have fun, say hello to everyone!

No no! Talk about Blade Show already!!! I can't wait. It was quite an experience. Overwhelming even.

You coming this year Shappa?

My roomy from college offered me a cot. I was thinking about just getting a room and 'allowing' overnight guests.

Who gets these passes? Do I need to start sucking up to Dan?

Andy,
Yep I'm going to try. But like most people it really depends on finances.

Blade show is sensory overload. I've been to the last three so it's becoming a bit of old hat.

yea, right.

Sucking up to Dan wouldn't hurt. Even if you couldn't score a vip pass from him he deserves it. He's a nice guy.:D

The table holders get the passes, they inturn can pass them out to anyone they wish. Most of the time they go to past customers, potential customers, friends, relatives. Table holders don't get the passes till right before Blade. Just keep a look out on the forums and you'll spot someone giving them out. It's always polite to go by the table and purchase something as thanks.

just kidding. At the least stop by and introduce yourself and say thanks.

Well I hope both of you make it. Be good to meet you 45/70, and good to see you again Shappa. What goodies will we be passing around at dinner I wonder?

for those not in the know, where is the show, what is the hotel of choice, costs, all that. tell all. :>

Here ya go guys, the basic info.

The hotel of choice is of course the Waverly. It's physically connected to the show galleria.
The prices are high, but if you can afford it it is great go from the show to your room (or a party in someone elses lol) to the "pit" and back without leaving the building. Of course if you split a room with a few others it's not too bad.
If you are strapped for cash like most of us you go for the many hotels that are close. Most have shuttle buses that will pick up/drop off with in three miles of the hotel. There are also several good restrauant within that distance too. The farther out from the show the cheaper the hotels.
Even better is to get a close hotel for the advantage of being close to the show and split the room for the cost savings.

Shappa,

can you give me an idea of the cost for a room in the Waverly using the convention pricing?

I know there is a hardware store in Atlanta called Highland Hardware, I need to figure out how to get there too. Maybe I can steal a local or something for an hour or two :)

I'm not sure what the rate was...i just know it was out of my range.:o

google maps shows that the hardware store shouldn't be too hard to find...tho it is a ways away.

Highland Hardware is like Disneyworld for woodworkers and will take you more than a couple of hours. I'd be glad to take you there (I be local), and others too if there is a need!:p

There is just simply NO way I'm missing the show! Though I think I'll pace myself a LOT better this time, and not push myself to see EVERY table. Focusing on that many knives was overwhelming and gave me a SPLITTING headache last time.

You can buy a ticket for each day, or a three day ticket or you can get a vip pass from a tableholder. The vip pass gets you in all three days and an hour earlier than the general crowd on the first day.

The constant drone of the crowd and the lousy air can give me a headache so I always carry a few asprin/tylonol and stay hydrated.
