Hello.....among all the wardens I must say tiger got most light colored. Which must oil the tiger to make it look young!

I found, no matter how often I oil the baby, after when it got dry it turns back to light colored. The oil did not make the color last.

Is it true that color won't stay, its micarta's nature or I should try to use somthing else?

What kind of oil?

I was using mineral oil and it seems to be holding some color. If I recall Skunk did say that it will take a few times to have the color hold.

I use nothing but the best on mine:

Virgin Olive oil and I stroke it on the micarta with garlic bread:thumbup:

Balistol is great to get the deep colors out. And it will last longer than most other oily products. Balistol is also non-toxic so your Busse can be used for food-prep after the lube. Only drawback (maybe) is that Balistol smells like anise (aniseed). But I kinda like it.

Oh yeah, btw since we are at the topic. I hv not yet recieved my FBMLE, but I have seen some picture of it.

To me, the REAL LE handle looks nothing like Jerry's photo! In Jerry's photo, the tiger hide looks like a G-10 with dark color and shining surface. What I have seen on REAL LE is Micarta, much similar to Tiger Warden. It does not have glow on surface and color is much lighter.

It because ppl got to learn how to take digital photograph of it or.....it is actually different from Jerry's #13? The tiger hide actually looks a lot closer to tan micarta handle.

I do understand that McDonald burger looks hell lot bigger than real life. Is it the same case here.

Don't touch Crafft's knives - he's rubbed some anise on them. LOL

I got some nice deep colors out of the Tiger Warden by carefully sanding with 800grit emorycloth in ONE DIRECTION ONLY and then as-per-Skunk, a few coats of Tru-Oil stock refinisher.

Shines it up nice, wears good, doesn't detract from grip (which oil and other finishes can do).

You'll never get the colors you see in pix b/c the camera can "look" at a color for longer than your eye can in person. Whether film or digital, it can soak up a whole lot more color than your eye will. Almost to the point of overexposure. The only grip I've seen that looks like the pix is snakeskin. But I don't think Snakeskin is canvas micarta, so that defeats the issue right there. Linen and paper micarta have less fiber and more resin-color in them so they look nicerer. But I like micarta versus G10 b/c it looks less plasticy.

well i think i read somewhere that Jerry oiled his handles for that pic. I am now wondering if i should do the same. It is going to be a user so i really dont think it matters anyways.

Tung Oil...
It will polymerize and add strength, and end the porosity of the micarta..
its what is often used to seal wood on military rifles... rub it in by hand, let dry, do it 3-4 times and you have a beautiful sealed piece of wood-

would it give the unwanted shine, glow, mark, whatever on the INFI satin?

Could you possibly explain how using Tung oil on a micarta handle turns it into a "wood" handle?????

YMMV, but the oil from my own hand sweat tends to make my micarta handled Busse, Swamp Rat and Topps kinves look good, no additional oil required.

I wrote of how it works on wood.. and how it should work on a paper product- nothing to do with alchemists

if she shines, hit her with 000 steel wool for a nice nonglare grippy finish (done it on wood many times.)

I'm fairly certain that's not true. His Black canvas micarta pics always look very light to me.
