Ever since I got this idea that I really wanted to make knives (2 under construction as I write this), I've been facinated with the idea of making a pair of scissors.

Anyone have any experience in this area? I figure i have the steel and the tools and I could just send them out for heat treat with my first batch of blades? ATS-34 or 440C (what I have on hand)? What sort of RC hardness? Is this too wierd?

You aren't the only one, I have wanted to do that for a while now, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Let us know how it turns out, I am interested.

I don't think its weird at all, just don't run with them!:)

That's not a crazy idea at all jmxcpter. In fact, when I was first apprenticed as a knife maker I helped my step-dad and teacher make a pair. He ground out the blades and I did the wood work. The blades are 1095 and the wood is black walnut from our place. They turned out real nice and with a little tweaking they cut great! Go for it dude. It's as cool as you think it is.

JMX: Go for it! There are lots of knives out there, the man who makes a truly great pair of sizzors or even knows how to spell them will set the pace. If here lies your interest, you have an open field in front of you. Good Luck!

Max: Those are great! How about giving this new goy some competition? The two of you at the same game -- Here we go, Hear the National Anthem playing in the back ground? To the Starting Line, Gentle men start your engins! Good Luck!!

there is a market for hair cutters, home taylors, etc the quality of most of the production stuff has gone too h@#$%$. some of the japanese hair scissors are $300 plus. good luck

Oh yeah, Bruce, I can see that; differentially tempered damascus scissors, with gold damascening, and some ivoury and mother of pearl inlays!
