I am looking to upgrade to my first smartphone and I am wanting to know if I should get the Iphone 4 or wait till July when the next installment will come out? I have used the Iphone 4 before and other smartphones so it is not an issue of learning how to use it, it just has to deal with how fast it gets updated. I think that the phone has everything I need right now (new phone, internet, video, pictures, etc) so the next phone may not expand on that very much but I am not sure what do you guys think?

I have a 3G and I considered updating but, after some thought, decided I would rather go Android for a few reasons.

If you really want an iPhone that's fine go for it. Probably best to wait for the new model, it may have same of the bugs ironed out.

Give some thought to the Android alternative though, for one thing you won't be locked into only having whatever Apple thinks you should be having.

.

I use Android driven HTC desire, picked it up only a week or so before they released the HD Desire. I suggest taking a look at the HD range and how the screen differs from the IphoneG4 before pulling the trigger.

Wife and I both have the 4. Once there is a jailbreak for the current OS, I'll crack my phone so I won't be locked into whatever Apple/AT&T thinks I should have on my phone.

If you get the iPhone 4, you'll have to have a data plan, same goes for a lot of other smartphones. If you have a basic phone right now, it'll be a big jump, since there're plenty of other features, and you'll most likely realize it was worth it. The bill might be a bit high though..

Unless you love AT&T and are taking advantage of the $50 Radio Shack discount, I don't think you should get an iPhone 4 right now. In two weeks, AT&T's exclusive deal with Apple ends. Rumors are flying about a Verizon iPhone; if that happens the second-hand market will be flooded with slightly used AT&T iPhone 4s, and the Verizon one might be slightly better. If none of this happens, well it's only two weeks to find out, and the price isn't going to change.

If you just want the Apple apps, you can get the latest version iPod Touch.

I was lucky enough to get my first iphone 2 years ago. I have been with AT&T since 4-07 (this time) and have always paid extra for unlimited data tx. I've heard the plans have been restructured to facilitate AT&T's violation of you rectal cavity much easier. Thankfully Mr. & Mrs. CM were "grandfathered" and pay the old rates.

I'd wait the 6 months if you can. the 4 is awesome, but the 5 will just be that much better and you'd probably wish you had waited.

Wait until next year. Dual processor phones are in the works.
I have an iPhone 3G and switched to the Droid X as an upgrade of phones and providers.

The phones next year should blow them all away.

I have an android phone (evo 4g) and my wife has an Iphone 4

I love the heck out of my evo but the apple just blows it away with battery life.

I don't see a lot of difference in the screens, mine is bigger, but hers seems more vibrant

I download crap almost every day and install and uninstall stuff to see what I like on my phone... almost every sing app that I'm like "oh wow this is awesome!" seems to be available through itunes as well and just as free. The Iphone 4 is a REALLY nice phone. I'd recommend it, especially if you plan on doing a lot of talking and browsing, the battery last probably 3x as long as my evo battery does.

There will always be a better phone just a few months down the road. I've had the 3G and many of my friends have the Droids. Most have them have gone back to the iPhone. I have the iphone4 and couldn't be happier.
It's impossible to keep up with technology. If you hate AT&T, which I've been satisfied with for the most part, then wait a couple of months to see if Verizon will definitely get the iPhone.
I love mine and will get another in a heartbeat

I'm locked in to a two year deal with ATT with a year and a couple of months to go. By then I'll be FREE from the bonds of ATT's crapola service. The king of dropped calls and fewer bars in more places. When I find myself daydreaming about the excellent Iphone coupled with a fantastic cellular network like Verizon, I have to look around to make sure nobody seen me drooling all over my collar. Man, I can't wait! ATT sucks so bad it's indescribable. It's like trying to listen to the philharmonic orchestra on a 9 volt AM radio in the basement of a solid steel building during a thunderstorm while wearing earplugs and running a pneumatic jackhammer. The sooner this monopoly is broken up the better. Ronnie Reagan had the right idea when he smashed ATT into pieces. Unfortunately they regrouped, got worse, and screwed the American people twenty years later, twice as hard. The ATT storefront is out of business in my area (for obvious reasons) but when it exsisted, you could only get three bars of signal in there. That should have been a red flag to start off with! Oh man, getting rid of ATT will be like getting over typhoid fever! Yowza! Bring on Verizon. They got PEOPLE!! :D
