I have these 3 and only the middle one is good. IMG_4462.jpeg
Both Broken inside.

I thought about switching the scales on the one on the right with the middle one that is usable?
Unless there is a better option to repair the two broken ones. I know just chuck them in the garbage they are like $10 for a new one.
But why i would pry up (never done it) and glue the nicer scales on the serviceable knife?
What’s my best option?

Making one serviceable tool out of two broken ones? Seems worth it to me with one caveat, the celluloid scales never snap on as securely as they did from the factory once pried off the rivets. A dab of glue on each rivet can remedy that. Thin blade to gently pry them up and lightly clamp them on the donor knife when you glue them in place.

Thanks very much. I figured i would do that exact thing.
Too bad one of the broken knives scissors still works as normal. Slips out and snaps back into the handle. Wish i could remove the other two blade and file and just have a dedicated scissors?

Victorinox has a lifetime warranty. You could send them back for repair. IIRC, its like a $5 fee for the return shipping.

$5 for two new Classics? Certainly would be worth it as i doubt they would repair them.

Also have to think about what your time is worth too, being that a new replacement is only 25.00 USD, however If you like tinkering or they have sentimental value then, by all means.

I hear you. Thing is I’m retired so time isn’t too much concern for me but that’s just me.

Make little fixed blades with the blades from the broken knives.

I hadn’t thought about that.
But seriously if I sent the two broken ones back, they would actually fix or send two new ones back? I just can’t believe that, but it certainly would be worth a try.

If you use a hair dryer or very hot water, you can make the scales a bit more pliable and help encourage the scales to snap back on more securely. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Yes they will.

In August of 2022, I. bought a small lot of four Vic classics off the great bay. seller said all were in good condition. He lied like a rug. Three were in very good shape with a couple having the original edge on blades. One was very heavy used with a broken blade spring. I sent it off to the Victorinox site in Connecticut and enclosed 5 dollars for shipping. They sent back a new classic.

Victorinox has a warrantee second only to Buck.

So i will give it a try and go through the process with the two broken ones. I would like to replace the scales on the good one that has the drug name on them. Do they sell the scales to the classic? I have never checked?

You can buy replacement scales, but you have to be sure that you order the correct size and ones which match the features of your knife (the cut outs on the sides).

I have used a narrow awl in the tweezers, or toothpick, hole to pry the old scales off, but you have to be extremely careful not to stab yourself if the scale gives way. Replaced broken scales or just changed to scales of a new color using this method. Pressing the new scales on requires even pressure over the whole scale. Installed the new scales by placing them under under my heel to pressing on it with some body weight, with the new scale lying on the ground and the knife on top. You only need enough pressure to seat the scale and not stand on it completely.

All good information to consider.
I did start the process to initiate a repair/most likely replacement order but got as far as the photo of the receipt and honestly who keeps a receipt of a $19 at the time purchase of a now 20 year old knife. After two major moves? Oh well it was worth the try. 😩😢

If you want to remove the scales to remove them, soak the knife in a cup of hot water for a minute or two to soften them up, then use the blade of another Victorinox to gently pry them off.
Once cool and dry they can often be snapped back on like a brand new set of scales.

Best bet is on eBay. Look for 58mm classic scales. You can find them in most colors brand new.

Per the instructions on their site, just uncheck the “warranty” box and describe what you want done in the “special instructions” box. I’ve never had to provide proof of purchase for any repair.

This.

You'' have no problem from Victorinox. I've never provided proof of purchase but usually got a new SAK sent back.

All great information 👆🏽
They fixed 1989 Swiss Champion with no proof of purchase. Just thought their rules had changed. I’ll get a jump on it for Monday mailing. Thanks.
