Hi I am looking into getting my FIRST FIXED BLADE YESS. I don't know much about fixed blade and type of steel on fixed knives. I want to keep it under $100. I'm going camping and going to use it for cuting wood for fire some food prep and maybe hiking in the woods. I like the BK2 but don't know if there are other knife out there that I haven't checked out. Please help me or give me your opinion on witch one is best for my use. Ohh and the blade no longer than 6 inches I think a 7 inch blade will be to big to carry around the woods.
Thanks

The BK2 is a very stout knife. Good to chop with and will take a ton of abuse. Plus mine arrived hair shaving sharp out of the box.

Hard to go wrong with a BK2. It's a fantastic knife. It's a big heavy chunk of steel though. Depending on what you want, one of the others in the Becker lineup might fit better, or not. You should check out the ESEE lineup as well, and also look at custom makers. A lot of makers can make you a blade for under 100 that you'd be very happy with.

Also, welcome!

You will be able to do far more than just make kick*** fires with the BK2. Keep it sharp, and you can do just about anything cutting wise, and you can bring down houses with it.

The BK2 is an awesome choice for a camping/general use blade. It's around a quarter of an inch thick, built like a tank, made in the good 'ol U.S. of A. and very affordable. It comes with a halfway decent sheath, although I have purchased a Spec-ops sheath that I really like for mine. There is also a decent amount of after market grip scales/sheaths if you want to dress it up later on down the road. I really don't think you could go wrong with this choice, my two cents!

Thanks guys I like the esee 5 but is out of my budget. And I won't be using it a lot I'm a folder person and if I can't use it for food prep it's ok I'll use my PM2 or my Blur.

I'm a big Becker fan but the BK-2 is far too much for me when it comes to camp work. It's heavy and thick and unless you really want to wail on something, it's overkill IMHO. However, I just took delivery of a Becker BK-16 - same profile but smaller, lighter, but same great BKT/Kabar 1095 CroVan steel. Comes with a better sheath than the BK-2 and far better suited to general camp work as far as I am concerned, especially if you are going to be carrying it around much. Also worth checking out is the ESEE 4, or the other Becker 'shorts', the BK-15 and -17. Head on over to the Becker sub-forum for heaps of reviews and photos.

BK2 is perfect for camp duties (and more), in my opinion. You'll love it. Yes, it's thick and sturdy - it's also very comfortable.

I've used mine for everything from chopping...
