Is Knott's Berry Farm Knife Friendly?

While I'm in California for the next week (for a karate tournament, NOT for the DNC) I'm planning to visit Knott's Berry Farm.

Anyone know if I should expect people to want to search my fanny pack, metal detectors, etc? I usually like to carry an AFCK or Endura if I can.

(If in the off chance anyone reading this is a member of the World Tang Soo Do Association, and will be in Anaheim, good luck

I haven't been there in over 25 years so I can't give you any usefull information, but I can give you a story from the past. Back when I was in junior high school (about 1963) I went with a school group to Knott's. In one of the shops (I think it was called the Blacksmith Shop) they sold knives. It was the first place I'd ever seen throwing knives for sale. I couldn't buy one on the spot, but returned the next time relatives made a trip to the park. So that's how I got into knife throwing (which was a primary hobby for the next 5 years)--from a knife I bought at Knott's Berry Farm.

By the way, it was a Malayan style, leaf bladed, blued carbon steel, about 1/8" thick, leather wrapped handle, and only cost $2.00 (a great deal for an amusement park).

I'm not sure about Knot's, but all of my experience with the "Mouse" kingdom is positive - my SAK's and Spyderco's were no problem. No searches & no metal detectors. I don't recall any obvious signs forbidding knives. Keep in mind that these parks do have an efficient security service and don't take no for an answer when they ask you to leave. If you're discrete and don't make a scene you should be fine. Don't ask don't tell seems to work.

Also can't answer for Knott's, but last summer I accompanied some children to Legoland (near SD) and carried a Calypso Jr. clipped to my pocket. No one objected. I'd agree that you shouldn't worry or make an issue of it. The stereotypes of CA as being uniformly and completely freaked out by any possibility of any potentially dangerous object are overrated, IMHO.

I haven't been to Knott's in years. Agree, no problems at Disneyland. At Great America in Northern California they have signs and a repeating taped announcement that there are no knives allowed regardless of blade length and they use metal detectors at the turnstile entrances.

I too know nothing about Knott's Berry Farm.

But, I'm sure that if you call them they'd more than happy to provide you with their policy on knife carry on their "Farm."

Besides, better to get the info from the folks that do know than the folks that "don't know!"

Amazing responses to this thread!

I think Six Flags may have a policy or something. The only one I've been to had metal detectors. Fortunately for me:

1. it was a light day so they had half of them turned off
2. the little lights faced the entering customers, so I would see which ones were off
3. their guards weren't too bright, not objecting as I walked right through a switched-off detector.

Last time I went to Great America, I (of course) set off the detector. They came at me with a wand, and the first pocket they checked set it off. I produced a knife from that pocket, and they had me check it in a locker for the day. They were satisfied by their find and did not check my other pockets for the two or three other knives I had on me.

I don't know about Knott's but I carried my 705 Axislock and Large Sebenza into Disneyland a few week ago even used the 705 on Main street without any negative reactions.

Amusement park policies may vary according to whether they've had incidents of customers fighting each other, or not. I have trouble imagining people coming down with testesterone poisoning and getting rowdy at Legoland, but the day could come.

I Can't speek for Knots but at the home of the mouse I walked around for most of a day with an old timer on my belt before security quietly asked me if I would mind putting it someware out of site. They were quite nice and did not have any problem with the knife just with it being in plain site.

I have not been to Knotts in a couple of years, but they did not seem to be checking for knives when I was there last.

Can't speak for Knott's Berry Farm, but I live near the land of Amusement Parks . . . . Orlando.

I routinely go to Parks in the area and not only carry a couple of knives, but a pistol.

The only time I have seen searches being done was at Universal Studios one time during "Halloween Horror Nights". They were grabbing everyone with a "fanny pack" and looking through them.

When it was my turn, I opened my small bag up and showed them the little disposable camera inside. They never asked about firearms or knives, but I didn't think they were "wanding" for liquor.

i have been to knotts berry farm not to long ago and unless you plan to go during haloween
they don't do search's and i don't remeber any metal detectors.

I was at Knotts last year and carried either a 710 or 730 in without any notice.

I would simply give them a call if you don't want to take any chances. Policies change all the time, and as we all know, knives are becomming less and less accepted in our society.

Check out the KBF web site at http://www.knotts.com/park/gtown/shopping/western/western.htm.
You'll find this listed!:
Old Knife Shop
For 37 years this establishment has been supplying Ghost Town guests with a wide selection of cutlery and accessories. This includes household, sporting, hunting and pocketknives. The Old Knife shop also provides repair services including knife sharpening. When you visit the shop, be sure to view the historical display of knives and swords.

Ahh, I remember this knife shop. A nice collection of blades, or at least I thought so 15 years ago. I remember almost buying a fancy RIGID boot knife there but decided not to. Prices there are, of course, through the roof! No good deals can be found there ala mall knifeshop prices.
