It seems like most companies are using kydex or plastic sheaths now days. I still like a good cordura or nylon sheath. Why the big switch to kydex. Is it better at holding the knife?

I think it's the looks, and it's also faster to get the blade out, as opposed to getting the Velcro nylon flap out of the way first. And it offers many carry methods, while making the whole package relatively smaller.

In this case, i like both sheaths, the nylon works great at belt and it doesn't look like a knife to most people.
For neck carry, i prefer the kydex.

Well as far as the plastic ones go I'd say it's cost . The cordura or the nylon need to be sewn by someone . Where as the plastic can just be machine injection molded .
As for the Kydex I think it's popularity comes from it's retention in any position , so that it can be carried even upside down as military often do on the front of their vest of pack .
Personally I like a good sheath like Spec-ops .

Jacktrades , that looks like a sweet little knife

Kydex is terrible. Looks cheap feels cheap and dulls my blade.

If a custom maker doesn't offer leather I won't buy.

This is the first thing you've EVER said I agree with, I guess "a broken clock really IS right twice a day"

anyhow, yeah kydex is also audibly irritating(that means noisy for those of you in MN) booo kydex!

I prefer leather.

But if my choices where cordura or nylon
Cordura with a Kydex stiffined back.

Still prefer leather.
