I just received a linder dagger as a gift, it looks exquisite, but is just for show?
The model is PPR SOLINGEN 420 steel.
I worry that the blade might shatter if subjected to the slightest bit of abuse.
Please advise.

@ecmouse

I don´t think the blade might break. It´s more likely that it will bend when abused. IMHO the 420 steel can be compaired with AUS6. I had some Linder-Knifes, they put on quite a nice edge, but they need to be resharpened or stroped frequently.
If this dosn´t bother you, you have got a good, reliable knife.

Olli

PS.: They are not made for show, they are made to be used. LINDER/Solingen has got a quite a good reputation here in Germany.

just what I was going to say, Olli...!

Linder/Solingen does make good knives for the $$.

I had a nice Linder dagger in stag, but my wife liked it and took it as her letter opener. :(
Good knife for the price.

Linder was the first company to manufacture the F1 knife for Fallkniven. The Linder ATS34 in Cocobolo does resemble the F1. Fallkniven then changed to a Japanese company because Linder copied the F1 and sold it as their own.

Linder has many traditional German style knives that some people like and some people dont.

I've seen some Linder knives that were really, really nice and some that were not very good at all.

I think it mostly depends whether the knife is made in Solingen Germany, where I guess
the main Linder factory is located, or somewhere else. Like China.

yikes....I posted to this thread almost 4 years ago!!!! :foot:

Welcome to Bladeforums, William Lewis!!!

Brought back the dead w/ ya....:D  :p

ive been very familiar with linder for about 25 years.i have a linder yukon bowie,it hangs on the wall, very well made. they make nice old world type knives.ppr stands for peter paul rosenkaimer, the owner of the company.ive never seen that ppr mark on their knives, except the custom ones handmade by ppr himself......

I like the top three in this link: http://www.roedter-messer.de/linder.htm

The "Super Edge" models don't look too bad either. I think those replaced the Fallkniven F1, when Fallkniven went to Japan.
