Is loctite always necessary

I stopped using loctite on handle screws because of a few incidents I had. I haven't found the screws to loosen in between cleaning and disassembly times. I got some MXG gear for a couple ZT models and I'm curious how necessary is loctite for the lockbar insert screw? Is it more likely to loosen than the handle screws?

Never use it. I really don’t understand why so many people do. I’ve never even bought the stuff. No loose screws here.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you're alert you'll notice a screw loosen before falling out. I've had friends with pocket clip screws that loosened. I've had pivot screws loosen.

For most folders, good set of tools that lets you torque everything down nice and snug without stripping anything is just as good as loctite in most cases. The only time I really use it is for pivot screws that tend to back themselves out.

I took my PM2 apart to clean it a while ago, and reassembled it with blue loctite, and the next time I took it apart it was a major pita to bust all the screws loose.

I like it for pivot screws. The blade action is usually much better if the pivot isn't cranked down tight, which means Locktite is needed.

I seldom use it for other screws, unless one particular screw likes to come loose. I have one sheath that has hardware that likes to loosen and fall off, so that sheath has Locktite up the ying yang.

I think some screws loosen more than others..

The only knife I’ve used loctite on was my mini Ritter, on the pivot screw. I’ve disassembled other knives but that one liked to work itself out. I flipped it more than almost any other so I’m not blaming Benchmade. If at all possible I try not to use it.

I don't use it on knives. Never had to. Just check my EDC daily and tighten down wherever needs it. It only takes a few seconds to check. I also have numerous tools to work on them. Benchmade knives have always needed tightening more than other brands that are in my EDC rotation.

I stripped out a screw head on my Delica because of the thread lock they use and had to waste $25 for them to get it out and replace it for me. I'm not a fan of it. I prefer regular tightening maintenance. Chris Reeve doesn't use thread lock from the factory though, do they?

I’ve had experiences where the pivot screw had backed out on different knives. This can be inconvenient when your away from tools to tighten it back up.

I find a tiny dab of Loctite to be cheap insurance from losing a screw or even worse, the blade itself.

Just a touch of finger nail polish works well a lot of the time. Easy to loosen. Got to be careful with the Loctite, too much and you have a problem.

I agree, only on pivot screws if they require a bit of adjustment to get centered or working smoothly .
The sweet spot on most of my Hinderer knives the pivot screw is almost loose, fingernail tight, Emersons as well

I've had a few knives develop loose screws over extended use / fiddling with. I can think of two that I have off the top of my head that I really need to get around to loctiting the pivot of, since the screw gets loose and the centering goes off a bit after a dozen or so open-close cycles.

It has its uses, but I do recall it being an absolute messy nightmare to apply to small screws.
