Is Menards steel any good?

Just tooling around Menards yesterday, I noticed that they had flat steel stock in varying thicknesses and lengths, but can't seem to find any specific information on what kind of steel it is or if it has been heat treated or any other specifics. Anyone have any information on this steel?

It's pretty good for building racks and frames and whatnot, that's about it.

I don't even use it for guards any more, it's too inconsistent. I've literally found pieces where you can see little chunks of scrap and old screws embedded in it :rolleyes:

If you want mild steel for fittings, buy real 1018 from a reputable supplier like MSC, ENCO, online metals, etc.
