I don't find him on the ABS Mastersmith roster, but an internet purveyor has him advertised as a Mastersmith. Thanks for any info.

I'm pretty sure Mick Langley is a Mastersmith. He's either from Canada or Australia,I can't remember which. But I've seen a couple of his bowie knives with an M.S. stamp on them.

Plaza Cutlery has a couple of Langley knives too.Two Really Nice Bowies as a Matter of Fact

Mick Langley passed the MS test with Jim Schmidt if I recall, but let his ABS membership lapse over the years.

In this instance, if the ABS membership lapses for a certain period of time, you MUST retest and rejoin to regain your status.
Langley has not retested as far as I know. If you look carefully, Langley never uses the ABS MS stamp.

It is a technicality, but an important one. I have owned several of his knives and they were well built in an rustic way. Most of his knives have a working finish, but good fit for the price.

So to answer your question, I am not sure :)

I asked this same question myself. Awnser, with the ABS his listed as retired. So he can no longer use the M.S. stamp. This info came from steve Dunn. And He called some else to learn it.

Sounds like one of those cases where an argument for either view--MS or not--is supportable, depending on which facts are given priority.

Thanks to all for your input. I do appreciate it.

Anybody know if Mick Langley has an email address? I have his phone number and can contact him that way, but I prefer email when possible.

Anthony, have you seen the Langley damascus bowie in the June Blade? It looks to be beautifully finished.

Keith,
I have had several of his knives. 3 hunters and two bowies.
They were all well made, sharp and nicely done. They all had a "working" finish no greater than 400 grit, but the price was right. I used one of the hunters and it performed quite well. He makes a nice sheath also.

His knives do not compare to some of the bigger names like Dean, Fisk, Fitch, Crowell, but his prices are usually quite a bit better. He is from the "old school" and builds usin' knives for the most part I guess.

usually, there is a seller on ebay named "franron" who always has a few Langley knives.
