Is MOD Still Considered a Good Quality Knife?

Are Master of Defense knives still considered quality knives? Anyone have experience?

I understand they were bought out by Blackhawk.

I have an "old" MOD and I would say the build quality is higher than of Microtech.

Didn't handle any "new" MODs, but I was told that quality is definitely not that great any more.

I don't think the "new" MOD is as highly regarded as the "old" MOD. I don't have any experience with the newer versions, but the quality of the older ones is excellent. I wish I hadn't lost my Ayoob Razorback. That thing was sweet.

I could be wrong, but I think the "new" MODs are no longer called "MOD"- they're called "BLACKHAWK!"- or at least have "Blackhawk" in the name or on the box somewhere. That may be a clue to telling the difference between versions. And it seems like the price has dropped on some of the models. One has to assume the quality may drop along with the price.

The old ones were like Microtechs with super thick, beefy liner locks!! I've heard a few comments from people who have purchased the new CQD Dieter that is made outside of the U.S. and they have been happy with it for the price.

From what I know the Blackhawks are build the same as the MODs with
the biggest difference being that instead of a higher grade steel they
use AUS-8. As for the liners being thicker/thinner, or other changes in
the build I am not sure.

Blackhawk MOD w/ATS-34 blade steel. Made in Seki, Japan.SS liners and 4 way pocket clip. Solid lockup and a very well made knife. IMO

The first blackhawks to come out where great (Crucible, kalista) and that was when the name MOD was still around and Blackhawk took over. Then MOD disappeared and all designs were converted to cheap taiwan models. The new knives are not in the same category as the originals, but they are far cheaper. They are not aimed at the same demographic anymore and would appeal to buyers of knives like CRKT instead of Microtech.
