Is my Ax damaged?

Hey guys,

Just received my hult ax from bushcraftcanada.com and was ecstatic about it. However there is a bit of splintering at the te area where the step wedge is....is this a bad thing for an ax? I am no expert but I expect a new item to appear as pristine as possible...and not sure if this will affect the performance in any way. The ax feels solid, but have not used it yet.

It's probably fine. But pics might help decide if it's an issue. The splintering may just be from when they trimmed the excess above the eye, as I have that pretty often when I finish hanging a head. I usually just hit the excess with a little sandpaper and BLO and call it good.
