Hey, I was wondering if my green polishing compound is any good.
It's number 5 green compound from either Home depot or probably lowes.
The maker is task force I got the finest one they had and I also got a number 4 (it's white).
It's for buffing wheels, but I use it with my strop.
Is the compound any good I can't find how many microns it is anywhere.

The green is around 3 microns where as good green compound AKA chromium oxide is usually 0.5 microns. It will work but there is better.

It will work better on steels without a lot of hard carbides. It will work better on a simple carbon steel than a tool steel. It would work better on 420HC from Buck or AUS8 than on 440-series or 154CM stainless. If you have a fancy stainess steel with high abrasion resistance I would do a complete sharpening job using hard hones and only strop briefly and lightly at the end.

I have the finer green CO knifenut mentions and it will refine and polish 440C,ATS34,154cpm and others. It works decent.DM

Not to highjack the thread but do any of you guys know the micron rating of Flitz?
