Is my dad's new 120 a fake?

What blade steel?
What is the blade length? (the 120 should be 7 inches. The 119 is 6 inches)
What handle material?
Is the guard and pommel brass or aluminum?

I know on some of the blade steels the "tang stamp" is laser etched because a actual stamp won't work.

Was the price "too good to be true"?

Did it come with the box, paper work and sheath?

I'm not aware of faux Buck 120's on the market, but that does not mean there aren't any.

They do laser etch some of the tang markings. I'm not sure if that's reserved for the harder steels or not; all my 154cm, S30V, and S35VN bucks are laser etched. My 420HC and 5160 blades are all stamped.

There are far more knowledgeable people here than me though.

you might show a bigger pic that shows the stamp and the entire knife. that pic is pretty small.

Please post a few photos of the whole knife. Also if you click on the thumbnail photo it enlarges.

Click on it, it gets bigger.

My dad purchased this knife from ebay. What makes me question it is the tang stamp. It isn't stamped it's like a laser burn or I don't know what.

What's the blade steel and handle material? A full knife pic might help but to me it looks like the proper Lazer etch that Buck uses.

The etching looks correct compared to my Buck knives that are in s30v and other upgrade steel but my 420hc regular production knives are stamped. Yours maybe something other than 420hc which can be stamped but it also maybe a custom or SFO production. I could be wrong but I think it’s a real Buck from what I’m seeing.

It is supposed to be 5160. It has the same flame symbol as my wife's 898 impact there isn't any 120 marking or buck stamped on it I will get better pics tomorrow. Every buck knife I own is stamped with buck the model number and date code this only has the buck laser etch. But thanks

Pomel is aluminium. Blade boss 5160 7inch. Cocabola (dymonwood) grip. If it is a counterfeit it is as close as a buck as you can get. The stamping not being there just makes me question it. And one other thing is it didn't come with a lifetime guarantee card.

The anvil denotes a special run. So, the stamping will be different. And a model 120 has a 7 1/2" blade. DM
