I was given this SOG knife recently as a gift from a dear friend. Is this knife legitimate? It is a SOG Flash Tanto scribed on one side of the blade, on the otherside it says 440 steel.

I personally have no experience with SOG. But I have seen both the Flash and the Flash II, and this doesn't look like a flash to me. Also the "Tanto" doesn't match up with SOG's other Tanto blade styles, it looks like a drop point to me.

Again, I have never owned a SOG but this looks fake to. Could very likely be wrong though.

I looked in the catalogue as well, but I need more replies to be able to confront the issue.

No its a fake/reproduction/counterfeit, whatever you want to call it, it is not legitimate. It actually doesn't look like anything i have ever seen manufactured by SOG.

It's a free knife; use the crap out of. If it breaks or whatever send it in; if you don't get it back its fake

Yup, Chinese fake. You can find these all over the bay. And as for using the crap out of it, be careful. Cheap Chinese knock offs can sometimes bite you as they are not made to any sort of quality standards and the company doesn't stand behind the product.
