Is my Maxx normal?

Hi all,
I just received a Cuda Maxx in the mail to down here in New Zealand and I have to admit I'm a little under awed. The minor cosmetic tooling marks on the flippers bother me a little, but I am more concerned about the handle slabs:

Basically they have not been "dehorned" / rounded on the edges. It has been rounded off towards the pivot for making a reasonable comfy hold, but the rear portions of the slabs are just pure right angled - and smoothing them out would cut throught the anodising. It's nowhere near as comfy as my CS Vaquero Grande.

Yes, the knife is slim, smooth and fast - more so than my Vaquero Grande, but the Vaquero really wins out in the handle comfort department.

So is my Maxx normal or are they all made this way? Even the Cuda EDC has dehorned scales!

Cheers,
Daniel.

It doesn't sound normal to me. The marks left from the laser cutter on the flipper are normal. Darrel told me Camillus will soon be finishing them off a little better. As for the handle, it sounds like they let one pass that wasn't quite right. Mine is chamfered all the way around, no sharp corners.

I just picked up my third one, sold the other two. This one has a much better set of finished flippers. The laser cutting marks have all but been smoothed away! The scales do have a right angle on them and I had not really noticed it until I read this. Again the front is just as Daniel described as it has been worked a bit. The square edges at the back don't bother me but they might be a problem for some.

Hi Dirk,

Are you saying that the scales on your Maxx are chamfered all the way around like a Cuda EDC? That was actually what I was expecting on a knife of this calibre. I've been thinking, maybe I can beadblast the anodising off, and get the scales chamfered / dehorned - but that's a whole of work for a knife that should be "out of the box" and will cost me a few $$$.

I really love the slimness and the frame lock... still tossing up on whether or not this is a keeper. If it was a spear point Maxx, I would keep it in a heartbeat (after doing the mods)!

Anyone else's Maxx islike this?

I wouldn't say they are chamfered to the point of the EDC. The handles on my CUDA Maxx look like one of my custom Maxx's.

On my knife the handle slabs have been smoothed all the way around. If it was wood I would say that a tiny router had been ran around the edge. The front and the back are the same.

Maybe you could try Camillus' web site and see if there is a customer service e-mail that you could ask if this is normal and see about sending it back.

Daniel,
Greetings to our NZ dealer! The MAXX does not have as large a bevel around the edge of the scales as the EDC. It should have a small bevel though.....we will be glad to take a look at it for you.

We have found that on some of the scales there have been deminsional variance that has thrown off the machining process that puts the bevel around the edge of the frame. We try to catch all of these, and adjust by hand, but I'm sure the odd one has gotten through.

How do you like the rest of the knife?

Feel free to email me direct regarding your MAXX....

Thanks Will - I like to test products out before unleashing them on customers :)

The rest of the Maxx is awesome, solid lock up with plenty of life in the lock and I am very impressed with the smoothness and quickness with the flippers. I haven't even used the thumb stud yet!

Daniel,
Just to make a point clear, the twin studs on the blade are actually "blades-stops", and not intended to be used as thumbstuds. Put your trigger finger on the guard/flipper, and push down along with a little wrist flip, and off you go!
