Is my Sebenza rusting?

Yesterday I noticed little brown specks all over my Sebenzas blade. I don’t live near any oceans and it’s not very humid. I’ve tried rubbing it off and cleaning it with alcohol and windex and scrubbed really hard with a paper towel but the specks are still there. The only thing I can think that could’ve caused it is I cut open a package of bug traps that were sticky. I cleaned it off my blade within 24 hrs. It’s hard to capture with an iPhone but here are some pics: C195E4C0-739C-483F-BEF5-1F8135ED942E.jpegC9C18862-56D6-4785-AAF2-9E3C3AE9F0D3.jpeg

Could this be rust? What should I do?

I would use Mothers polish or Flitz and try that it should remove whatever it is ... it looks to be minor and not sure it's rust ...

but hand rub with either polish see if it helps ... if not I use Rhodes 0000 steel wool ... or at least an American made 0000 steel wool and lightly buff it ...

I say American because not all steel wools are the same and vary in actuslly grit ... but Rhodes is my go to.

S35VN is corrosion resistant, not proof. It may be superficial rust.

I’d be really leery of taking any steel wool to the blade- you will end up having to work the entire blade to a new finish.

Flitz polish or even CLR could be used to remove and neutralize the affected spots without changing the stone wash finish too much. Clean thoroughly after with warm water and soap like Dawn dish detergent.

And I used to think my dry cabinet was overkill. Keep them clean and dry is my goal. But use them!

Give it a quick sharpen and should go away and be a bit sharper.

Looks like it's definitely stained. Evidently, whatever chemicals that are in those bug traps did a number on your blade. With some chemicals, they need to be neutralized asap. As long as you washed the blade, don't think any further damage will happen. Sometimes baking soda and water will remove the stains/corrosion from different chemicals.

My S35VN has been extremely corrosion resistant. I’m agreeing with AJack that some chemical reaction with the pesticide might be at play.

Clean the blade with WD40. That one of the best solvents for residue. If the blade is truly stained and it bugs you, CRK will re-tumble a blade for a small fee.

Stain for sure . I stained mine opening a bottle of drain cleanser. A little polish job with simichrome and it went away.

Thanks for all the great input. I think you guys are right about it being staining! I have a few of the things recommended at home and will try them. If it’s staining I don’t mind but if it is rust I don’t want it to get worse. It has the same texture as the rest of the blade and doesn’t feel like bumps or divots so I’m leaning towards staining. Just gives it more personality I guess!

A little Simichrome or Flitz as mentioned and that should come right off.

It’ll turn the rag black but no worries, that’s how it works. It’s a mild acid and it will really bring out the luster in the metals it works with.
