Is my spyderco a fake?

I'm relatively new to the knife world, but after reading tons of posts here, I bought a Spyderco Sage from a private individual for $110 on e-bay.

I received the knife (almost new condition) and am quite taken by it (craftmans ship, egdge-holding, carbon fiber, etc).

Then I started reading the threads on spyderco fakes and I started wondering, is mine the real deal? I compared it very closely to web pictures of the real sage and can not find a single microscopic difference.

So, I'm pretty sure this is not a clone, but, how can I tell for sure??

should be genuine, most are random trademark violations and not full on reproductions. to be sure, you should post pics

Yeah, post pics. Like hardheart said, most fakes involve slapping a Benchmade, Spyderco, etc. logo on some random knife, not reproducing a model wholesale. And the handful of fakes that do try to be exact reproductions of a particular model are usually so poorly done that they're easy to spot. If you can't find a single difference between it and the pics, it's almost certainly genuine.

If it is the Sage 1, I've never seen anyone match the basketweave textured carbon fiber, and the price would be about right. For that matter, I've not yet seen any fake Sages. There is a very close copy of the G-10 UKPK that has fooled some folks, though.

There's a clear difference in the quality. If you had a fake, I think you'd know it.

Welcome to Bladeforums. Your concerns are understandable, however, a few things to consider:

1. Buying knives on ebay for the most part is safe. You need to pay attention to feedbacks, read them. Don't just go by the numbers. I've bought over 70 knives from various ebay sellers and not 1 problem with anything, ever. The reason is because I keep going to the same sellers over and over again when I see something I like. So, nothing wrong with ebay, people selling on there "gotta eat too".

2. Did it ship from a location within the US? If it did, chances are it is genuine. Most (not all) counterfeits will be sold and shipped from somewhere in China (NOT Japan and NOT Taiwan). Sure, there are exceptions to the rule, but this is a very rare instance.

3. Does it look like every other picture of a Sage knife? If it does (carbon fiber pattern, screw type, colors, grind, clip, etc.) then it is real.

4. Identifying a potential knock off is damn near impossible without pictures. Using a very vague description that would fit just about any knife or other tool ever made doesn't help anyone give you a real answer. Pictures (as stated) really help. Without them, it's like trying to give someone a haircut over the phone, doesn't work well at all.
Sounds like you have an excellent knife, I'm sure it will provide indespensible in due time, enjoy that thing. ;)

check screws, clip, and see if badging is etched on, rather than painted...if all these match, you more than likely have the real deal..........carbon fiber knives usually arent faked

if you got the box and papers you can usually tell for sure
