Hello everyone, I bought the Spyderco police model around 1991/92. It doesn't have the police model stamp on blade. I remembered it being advertised having a lightweight aircraft grade aluminum handle. It was bought from a reputable knife catalog but can't remember the name of it.

I’m the opposite of an expert on spyderco - that one you have looks real to me. I had a few of them in the late 90’s - one said police, one did not. I remember the one without the police logo had g10 handle scales and minimal liners. Someone will definitely be along sooner than later to clarify.

Welcome.

It’s real and certainly looks to be aluminum as you stated

Real. I had a pinned aluminum in 92. I gave it away because it gouged so easily. Regret.

I really don't think there were any fakes in 92.

Interesting. I didn't know there were any aluminum bodied Gen 2 Police models made.

Just noticed the mention of it in the "Other Variations" section of SpydieWiki.

Seems likely that it's aluminum, given how beat up it looks but . . .

OP: Have you used a magnet to verify that the handle is made of aluminum (or at least made of a non-magnetic material)?

The first time I saw an aluminum Police was when I got one on eBay. The auction was for two Stainless Police Models. One turned out to be a slab-side first Generation. The other I thought was fake until I started researching and found out they had made them in aluminum, which is what it was. Those two were my second and third Police Models. I'm over 50 now.
