Is my Tomahawk pitted?

I intend to update the FAQ's with this information, but I wanted to put this topic in the spotlight initially.

Over the past few days (and over the next few I imagine) extremely large quanties of LaGana Tactical Tomahawks have been reaching their new owners. Some of our dealers' customers inquired about "pitting" in their LaGana Tacticals.

Brigade chose to include a flier in each box, which I have cut and pasted here...

The unmatched strength of the LaGana Tactical Tomahawk is based on the inseparable relationship between an American steel drop-forging and a 21st century molded nylon handle.

Our drop forged heads have been proven in combat since 1966. They are forged in an open environment and consequently carry scale marks. These marks are cosmetic and not blemishes…they are character within the steel as it is formed to shape under tremendous pressure. If we performed a de-scaling operation to remove these marks, the dimensions of the head would be reduced to a level that would not support the abuse and strength requirements that the current configuration boasts. If we oversized the forging initially and then reduced the dimensions to yield a smoother finish, we would be unable to keep the price affordable.

While cast steel produces a smoother surface, a cast axe head of the same dimensions could not endure even one-third of the abuse as our drop forged head. The LaGana Tactical Tomahawk is issued to US Armed Forces, Law Enforcement, and Rescue Personnel as a versatile, life-saving tool. It will not fail, nor will the Company warranty. Customers wishing for a collectible should be directed to our other models.

I hope this answers some unasked questions here on our forum.

Have a blessed holiday friends!

I just got my VTAC in from brigade, a day ago. I really like it! Mine has a bit of the mentioned pitting on the head, but, I like the look. It adds a bit of character, and brings out the 'forged' aspect. As a result, I know that mine will not look exactly like any others I run across.
The markings and rough spots add opersonality that is missing from most mass produced items, even those made on a smaller scale, such as the VTAC. I look at the forging marks as a positive, as my friends who have seen my VTAC have all noticed, and commented on how cool it looks.

I can't wait to see the non-beauty marks on mine. Since I'm sitting in Okinawa, Japan and was on the most recent 1SKS shipment, it should be here shortly. Just hearing about folks receiving them is getting me excited. Although I'm sure the wife is getting a little annoyed at my hourly requests to go check the mail. HURRY UP POST MAN!!!!!!!!!
