After reading through the rules and the FAQs I'm still left scratching my head - I figured there'd be some algorithm going over usernames and red flagging anything containing a slur but I'm not sure enough to post anything much yet.
 
Sounds like you are gay or hate gays. I don't like it, gl.
 
Up to the admins. But imho, No its not acceptable.
 
I'm not sure how either of those is implied, I use this name because I get the giggles when websites use it in automated responses.
 
Thanks leatherman, I'll keep that in mind for future posting - not sure what I'd change it to as I've used this handle for a while but if it's a problem I won't argue.
 
We have got some dangerous women around here. NOT a great idea to give them the impression you might be disrespecting them.

We have no auto correct on names. We prefer them family-friendly, though.
 
Is there an easy way to change usernames? Spent most of this weeks pay on a khukuris from HI earlier tonight after some light research mostly from here.

Would a sig explaining my username help? I was thinking "I giggle at automatically generated responses a lot."

Can't say on whether it's allowable. It will generate complaints and most likely cause thread derailment every once in a while when people take notice. Either way, I'd advise steering clear of Traditional and the like.

Easy solution? Ask the mods to ban the account and re-register under a name that you don't have to wonder about.
 
One thing I love about this community is that it's nearly all men and there's not alot of macho sexism, there's not guys posting pics of sexy girls, there's not disrespectful or offensive language.
I'm actually fine with those things lol... But they are everywhere especially online and I like having a place that's about a good clean hobby and I can show my young son that us guys can get together and be respectful. Therefore I don't like your name.

I'll be sure to steer clear of traditional but I can't decide on a new name unless I go with a variation of Archie or LJ that hasn't been picked yet, I'll wait till I hear from an admin before doing anything rash for now.
 
Are the HI forums traditional? I know they use traditional techniques but I wasn't sure if you were talking about a category or specific title.

That would be a lot faster than putting in for a name change. And I think a name change costs a few bucks. Starting a new account with 'SgtPS' would be better IMO. You'll still get the inside joke without offering offense to some. Welcome to the forum BTW, and thanks for thinking it over and taking input :thumbup:

@Hard Knocks, to me it's important to feel out the rules and guidelines of a forum as first priority - I couldn't abide being justifiably called a douche by the many - much easier to laugh after pissing off the few. :D
@Jen, no the only humanitarian work I've done has been with St John's and a private first aid guy I met out here after I moved.
@Subietuner, that's actually precisely the aim of it - when I thought of the idea I imagined I'd be well mannered at the very least and intelligentish where I could be. Expectations on their head and all that.
 
Quick question, will changing my email and shortly before or soon after making a new account (With the same details other than username) possible sooner and if so is this frowned upon?
 
Actually, you are better off opening a new account with a new email. Just tell us when you do, so we can ban the old account, and you'll be good to go again.
