Is Orange Over?

Perhaps I am in a cave, but it seems like last year right before the holidays Orange Spydercos were all the rage.

At least in terms of the Military, they were scarce and you could count on paying a little extra to get one.

Then the new year rolled out, they announced that Orange would be available (and not just a sprint run...at least for the Military) and it seemed like instantly the chatter on the forums hushed! I thought it was just my perception once I took delivery, but I have watched quietly for a couple months and it seems that orange is really out of the lime light.

Was orange a rapidly passing trend?...Or does it just seem that way to me because I got one?

As a follow up discussion, what is up with the orange Military? I bought 3 new Militarys between late November, 2009 and early February, 2010 and the fit and finish on the Orange seems about 3 levels above the other two! No complaint on the other two (they are great), but the Orange one I have, has a very snappy lock up, the grind and edge look like it was done by an artist, and the detent is much more firm than any other Military I have handled. Anyone else notice a slightly higher attention to detail on the Orange Millie?...may be I just got a particularly great one?

Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm still lusting for orange G10 and FRN (was so hoping the new D4 and E4 models was coming out in orange.)

I think people shut up about it because a lot of what they asked for just isn't happening.

I absolutely love orange and cant wait for more models. I too was hoping there would be an frn orange e4 and d4 but that didnt happen. I started the orange dodo thread over at the spyderco forums and it looks like it is now going to happen so there will be some orange g10 in our future! :)

Could be. I was also thinking that perhaps with the drop of all the other blog-worthy stuff, everyone was just buzzing with other subjects (colored FFG Enduras and Delicas, Ti Military, M4 Ti/G-10 Military, Blue Manix, Tool steel Manix, and Gayle Bradley seem pretty well discussed lately).

i'd love to get an orange G10 handled smallfly, but sadly i dont think thats going to happen

I just got an orange mili, I have to agree with you, grind lines, detent and overall fit and finish is superior to my standard black g10 mili, even seems to take a better edge, but time will tell on that one. I love it! can't say there is no love for my regular one though :D

Well, that settles it. Orange scales make knives sharper and improve F&F. Now where's my orange Para 2 in CTS-XHP? :p
