Is Queen D-2 heat treated "right?"

They advertise some very reasonably priced D2 knives. So reasonable, that I question the quality. Weird. But, how are they?

Queen quality (pretty good) has been discussed, but I don't recall anyone discussing the quality of their steel.

I thought mine was a bit soft; therefore, it was mine and is now someone elses.

I don't think it is up to Bob Dozier's standards, but I always carry a Queen and I find the edgeholding to be very good. In direct cutting tests with cardboard and pine, it has proven to be equal to or slightly better than my Spyderco S30V Native for edgeholding, and just slightly behind my Benchmade D2 (Cabelas mini-Grip).

The one common issue with the Queen D2 blades is that they often come with very obtuse edges, so it takes some work to thin them out to where I like them.

The only place I've seen the Rc of Queen's D-2 is in the A.G. Russell catelog. I think it's 58-59 or something like that. If accurate, that may not be optimal for D-2.

Still, the blades on my Queens hold an edge much longer than other slipjoints I have with 1095 or Case CV blades.

I agree with the observation that they tend to come with obtuse edge angles. I thin them out with a diamond hone.
